'14 GA OL Orlando Brown (Signed with Oklahoma)

I think folks may be jumping the gun. Kids sign all the time and don't get in. Just because he signed, does not mean he is for sure a sooner YET. If his grades were so poor UT dropped him altogether and did not allow his grades to play out, they must be VERY bad IMO. Wait to see if he actually enrolls there.

agreed - my guess is Okie had room to take a chance on signing - on the offchance he can get an ACT score or some grades that would let him enroll - they get a big win

the more likely scenario is he does not - they have lost little - and he goes back on the open market in 1-2 years

Don't care at this point. Richmond next year is what we need to focus on. JMO

I agree it's not really important now. I felt we could possibly get Brown in a couple years. Now, I doubt that plays out. As you said getting Richmond in the fold for 2015 trumps all. He could very well take the last OL spot for that class.

Yup. I cared until he signed with OU. Now time to move on

Zeus needed a way to save face. He is definitely JUCO bound. He got his golden parachute from Oklahoma because they had room. We did not. Can't fault the kid. He wanted to sign somewhere today and Oklahoma was his out.

I agree but Oklahoma sure seemed to come out of the wild blue.

So if he still goes juco/prep, he could still come to UT if we wanted him in a year or two, with no waiting, right? This LOI to Oklahoma doesn't change that?

I think something changed. It pains me to say it as well because IMO this kid was as Vol as you can be up till today. If he is willing to go the juco route for ou, why not just stick with his UT commitment and go the juco route for UT? That is why I question if he would reconsider Tennessee when/if the time comes.

Yes. He has to be re-recruited either way. Brown is friends with Payne. I have no doubt that he wanted to be at UT, but we just couldn't take the risk. As others have said, it was a win/win.

He probably wanted his day just like everyone else. The only way he "sticks" with UT is by not signing anywhere. Plus, if there is an outside chance to play next year, then OU gives him that. UT was not going to take that chance. There really is no harm in what he did. He obviously liked OU enough to be comfortable there if it worked out. If not, he will be re-recruited and hopefully consider UT again.

Oklahoma was in his top 3. This is a summary from an interview in March, 2013:

"When asked what offers stood out, he said Oklahoma and UT offer stood out. He said UT is definitely a place he can see himself playing for."

We shouldn't worry anout a marginal player flipping at the last minute with the haul we had today. Another OL would have been nice but we can capture a better OT next year if we can at least have a winning season and get into a bowl.

Marginal coming out of high school, maybe. He is a big project but has the ability to pay off in the long run. He might not make it into OU and we might be back recruiting him in a year or so from JUCO.

If he gets in OU I wish him good luck. If not and he goes Juco, see him in a couple years.

It's possible this is about OU winning the media cycle more than any long term plans. As others have said, their recruiting has dropped off and a former commit to UT, from a player-rich recruiting ground in the state of Georgia, is something they can spin easily to their local media and some national media as stealing an SEC player from a hot school in terms of this recruiting cycle.

I really liked Brown and wish he'd have kept up his grades and gotten in. One of the national recruiting analysts (yesterday or maybe a few days ago) tweeted about him knowing this could happen with his grades and pretty much said he didn't do the work he should've. That tweet was a bit harsh, imo, especially given that he's still basically kid and comes across as a nice one at that.

Would rather have him here but whatever is going on I wish Orlando the best. Well except and unless he's playing us. :)

Some of y'all are jumping the gun here. He still has to get cleared and get through the NCAA Clearinghouse to actually enroll. From what has been said, even by some OU people, he's either JUCO or Prep bound.

Remember outside SEC limit is 28 I believe. MEaning they can still only enroll 25.

Oklahoma is much more equiped for a sign and place, let Orlando save face and not look like a momo at his school.

I hope for Orlando's sake he qualifies, but if he doesnt, I still want him.

He went from a steal with an amazing offer list to a marginal player in a matter of hours.

I haven't been online all day so not sure what your talking about. Brown potential is through roof but he can only blame himself. Sign and place deal accdg to 247 so still could end up here
