While most thought Cortez McDowell was destined to commit last weekend if he made it to Rocky Top we heard this week from several people he's taking longer looks at both Georgia and Auburn. Both schools have come after the coveted safety prospect hard recently and so we've been told he's somewhat slowing things down and wanting to take another look at a few schools before doing anything. The feeling is the Vols still have a good sized lead.

Bad sign. Why would they feel we still have a good sized lead when all of a sudden the kid doesnt attend OW game and is entertaining Auburn and GA recruitment. Sure Butch and Willie will punch back and re-establish, but I got a feeling what once looked like a sure thing is now a dogfight.

He didn't attend the O&W game due to a baseball game obligation. That was unfortunate but no knock on him. It has been said before about other recruits but I would rather he take his time and be 100% sure he is all VOL before committing. I hope he is still ready to be a VOL and rise to the top.

Knew about the baseball game, just trying to put 2 and 2 together. I don't think it's crazy to question why he was scheduled to come to the O&W game and possibly commit and then he doesn't show all of a sudden because of a baseball game. Didn't look at his baseball schedule to know about the conflict? Guess he might not have known if he was in a tournament, and the game was wasn't originally scheduled. I can understand that.

But, when I then read that he's now being recruited hard by 2 other SEC schools and he seems to be listening, after EVERYBODY has said he's a Vol lock and was the one the EVERYBODY said was gonna commit a couple weeks back? I don't know, my suspicions rise.

I agree with your points and I'm not trying to knock Cortez at all... just trying to figure out if its worth trying to read the tea leaves here. I'm beginning to think it is.

The game was a make-up game due to weather. Pulling top talent from other states is always a battle. Even if he commits to UT we will have to continue to work hard for his signature.

Making us all anxious. He needs to go ahead and commit already. Same with truitt and gaulden.

I'm confident in our recruiters. Martinez is one of the best, and we are in on Smith and Wesley and still Gaulden, so we have a lot of prospects that have us #1 and are elite if not more elite than McDowell, granted he is more of a safety prospect.

does this guy have a handler, Derek Crudup? Not a big fan of guys that 'mentor'. Although that would explain him slowing his recruitment.

How come he didn't know the games were on the same day? Did he just all of a sudden remember he had a baseball game?

For those of you that did not read on the prior pages, he had a baseball game on Friday that was postponed due to weather and they made that game up on Saturday… The day of the orange and white game. That's why he did not make it in.

Butchco is a self sustaining recruiting energy source that is recruiting prospects from 2014, 2015 and 2016 with equal intensity..if Cortez goes elsewhere it won't be due to anything our staff is NOT doing to show him love..so let that be on him if he chooses..WE ARE TENNESSEE!

Maybe they were the 1st team to offer him months ago for football. I doubt we lose out to Syracuse. I do get a feeling the kid may wait and open things back up. If he was ready to commit at the O&W game and a baseball game kept him from doing it, there has been plenty of time since. JMO

Think it was already posted but it was a makeup game from that Friday where it had rained. Would be shocked if he isnt a Vol.

Good news, def, but lulz at the "30-60 days." Going out on a limb there.

I'd be very happy with wrapping up Mouhon, Brown, and McDowell by the end of June. Would like to see us add D.J. Smith in that time, too.
