'14 IL LB Clifton Garrett

He is suppose to swing by here right? And we are gaining a lot of momentum with this guy. He loves us and hasn't even been here yet. We definitely could make this guy a vol with a visit and peanut butter. LSU will be hard to overcome since they have been the better team lately. But being so much closer to home can't hurt us. Couple other Illinois boys looking at us so possibly even have some buds to travel back and forth with. Hendrix, anther LB, and that James is from Illinois isn't he? The RB.

He will be a huge pick up. Like on the Hurd level or right behind him.

Notes from his Gator visit, sounds good for us in some quotes... I trimmed the article so as not to steal the whole thing

"It was real good," said Garrett of his quick trip to UF. "I went with my [7 on 7] team and got a chance to talk with Coach [Will] Muschamp and Antonio [Morrison] for a little bit.

"I loved it and I had a good time down there and had a good time talk with Coach Muschamp. We have a good relationship and talk on the phone all the time. It was nice to meet them in person. I loved it down there. They play just how I like to play real fast and they win championships."

While on campus Garrett said that the former Illinois native, Antonio Morrison told him much he likes it at UF.

"He told me he loves it down there and he would love for me to come down and play next to him," said Garrett. "Two Illinois natives playing right next to each other in the SEC. It doesn't get much better than that.

"LSU, Ole Miss, Florida, USC and Tennessee as well," explained Garrett of his leaders. "Those are the five schools sticking out to me the most right now. I talk to all of those schools daily."

The 6-foot-2, 222-pounder does not plan to make his verbal commitment until January at the Army All American Bowl and said the school that does nab that commitment will need to show him a winning environment.

"I want to be a part of a good recruiting class and one that is legendary. I want to be around great people, great coaching staff and player and a great environment that isn't around any negativity."

Next time Garrett will be in Gainesville is likely for the Tennessee game, which he said is possibly when he takes his official visit to UF.

You lose cred with that one....but maybe if you're a Vol spawn post 90, you have mall shopping and skateboarding tricks to practice...takes away from researching Vol notables from the past...keep practicing the Macarena

I was 5 years old when he played. Doubt my memory was that good bro.

Pretty sweet that he will possibly see two UT games live. I think we compete in that game.

2 things:

This class will be legendary.

And...

If we beat UF, with this kid watching, in CBJs first year, then this kid will be a Vol.

Nothing screams winning environment like taking down Florida in the swamp

Lol at Muschamp pitch: "we already have 1 IL kid, you should be the next."

I want to say our class would be a special one for him to be apart of, but it's looking like LSU will pull a pretty amazing class themselves, so that isn't really unique to us.

LSU has a tough schedule this year... hopefully that translates to losses. It might make us look better to Garrett

Funny story, I tutored this gorgeous girl in chemistry...she was fighting with her boyfriend a lot...convinced her I was a better option. After we were dating, found out her previous boyfriend was Darrin Miller. Looked over my shoulder frequently after that. :)

Heard from a reliable source that was on the 85 team that his locker room nickname was footlong..... :D

I like the optimism but hopefully winning in the swamp in Butch's inaugural year isn't the only way we land him.

And she dumped him for Doc...what does that say for our favorite physician? :eek:lol: :clapping:

Garrett was in Florida with his 7 on 7 squad. They swung by Gainesville, but the visit was only a few hours. Garrett's quotes toward UF are pretty positive, but his 7 on 7 squad was less than pleased that the UF coaches only cared to talk to/spend time with Garrett......at the expense of the other players.

Might be a factor in his recruitment, might not. His 7 on 7 team got smoked by all the southeastern squads down there, so its sounds like Garrett is the only high caliber player. Explaining why UF's coaches ignored the others.

I'd venture a guess that our staff would have given the entire team some love even though we are only after one of their kids. They did drive massive miles to be there.

CBJ would spend time recruiting a kids 3rd cousin who is blind, deaf, hunchback, on 1 leg and confined to a wheelchair if it gets him the player he is after.

Once Garrett actually visits, I will think we have a shot.

I agree CBJ is more of a father figure than Muschamp. I mean lets say you were a 16 yr old that jacked up your car would you rather break the news to Jones or Muschamp?

I'm encouraged with Garrett because he's mentioned in an interview he wants to visit here and bring his dad. The kid is elite---I'm excited about the LB's we could potentially have here...Garrett would just be a great way to cap it off.

Is that the Core6 Athletes team?
