'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

Keith Niebuhr had this nugget on the Auburn board this morning:

With as wildly optimistic as the AU writers usually are, I don't think they feel all that great about their chances.

The one thing that is scary about this quote is that the source close to the auburn program is most likely Garner.

Lambert will sign with the Vols because he wants to start from day1. At AU he will not. As a JUCO he needs to build his NFL draft resume quickly. I'm sure AU is throwing the glitter and flash at him based on them playing for the NC. But that will not help him in the draft.

I looked at some of AU DT commits over the past few years and they already have some highly rated players that he would have to compete with for playing time.

I am fairly positive that Lambert was submitting papers between 8 and 10 AM. The ceremony at 3 PM is just for show.

I hope your right and its nothing more than Niebuhr posturing for hits on TOS.

On another note, I just noticed on Niebuhr's timeline that the '10:27am update' was last edited at 9:43am. Kinda of lends to the theory that he is creating a build up on his board.

Gotta roll with Orange Venom and his news from earlier, unless Lambert lied to the coaches. OV is very connected with the GA guys.

Lambert does not need to be a one-and-done player to make it to the NFL, in fact, he'd likely be drafted higher if he played both years. Nick Fairley was a 2-year JUCO transfer at Auburn. In his first season he was a rotational/on-and-off player. It was his second year, the 2010 Championship season, in which he dominated on route to being the 13th overall pick.

Lambert would be a rotational player at Auburn next season. However; it is 2015 in which Auburn loses like 90% of the current playing rotation along the DL: DT Gabe Wright, DT Angelo Blackson, DT Ben Bradley, DE LaDarius Owens, DT Jeff Whittaker (medical redshirt this season), DE Justin Delaine.

He may be able to start right away at Tennessee; but the playing time will be there at Auburn for him to show out. At the end of the day if he cant earn a starting job at Auburn then he's not going to be a high NFL pick anyway.

Fairley also had 3 to play 3, so his first year was his sophomore year, and he left early as a Junior.

Big difference in a 3 to play 2 guy, IMO.

If he is faxing between 8 to 10 and Auburn is optimistic after that time...is that a hint that he signed with them and they are just not announcing?

From AU Rivals a few minutes ago -

Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) OL Xavier Dampeer and Miss. Gulf Coast S Derrick Moncrief say they have signed with Auburn this morning.

We're still waiting on word regarding D'haquille Williams and DaVonte Lambert.

OFFICIAL word from Auburn regarding NLI's won't come until they're all in.

Nobody said he needed to be one and done. He will probably need two years, which is what the OP was talking about. You just admitted he might not get that the first year at Auburn. So you just helped our argument. Thanks! Like you said, even Fairley needed 2 years, and he's not guaranteed that at Auburn. However he is guaranteed that at UT.
