From AU Rivals a few minutes ago -
Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) OL Xavier Dampeer and Miss. Gulf Coast S Derrick Moncrief say they have signed with Auburn this morning.
We're still waiting on word regarding D'haquille Williams and DaVonte Lambert.
OFFICIAL word from Auburn regarding NLI's won't come until they're all in.
Fairley also had 3 to play 3, so his first year was his sophomore year, and he left early as a Junior.
Big difference in a 3 to play 2 guy, IMO.
11:03 a.m. ET: We think Auburn will be releasing at least some LOI information in about an hour. With Lambert, though, he's not announcing until 3 p.m. -- so I seriously doubt they would spooil his day.
He still only had 1 year of real production. That was the whole 'draftnik' knock on him: didn't do much his first year at Auburn, left early after dominating for one season.
The point remains that Auburn loses nearly everyone on the DL by the time Lambert hits his SR season. Literally the only ones currently playing who will be present are the True Freshmen that Auburn plays: Lawson, Adams, and Daniel. That is why Auburn is recruiting so many JUCO linemen in this class.
Unless his plan is to be a one-and-done (which wouldn't be a smart plan anyway); the "playing time factor" isn't as big a deal in reality as you guys make it out to be.
That's the script that it keeps following. It's no accident the NC hasn't been outside that state in what 5 years now. They pay top dollar down there for linemen.I've seen this movie before. Auburn shows up late and snatches a DT prospect out from under us. I think we're getting ready to see the sequel. I hope I'm wrong.
Lambert does not need to be a one-and-done player to make it to the NFL, in fact, he'd likely be drafted higher if he played both years. Nick Fairley was a 2-year JUCO transfer at Auburn. In his first season he was a rotational/on-and-off player. It was his second year, the 2010 Championship season, in which he dominated on route to being the 13th overall pick.
Lambert would be a rotational player at Auburn next season. However; it is 2015 in which Auburn loses like 90% of the current playing rotation along the DL: DT Gabe Wright, DT Angelo Blackson, DT Ben Bradley, DE LaDarius Owens, DT Jeff Whittaker (medical redshirt this season), DE Justin Delaine.
He may be able to start right away at Tennessee; but the playing time will be there at Auburn for him to show out. At the end of the day if he cant earn a starting job at Auburn then he's not going to be a high NFL pick anyway.
