'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

Just got in from a long day. I hate that Lambert flipped. People can say what they want, but he was a key recruit in this class. It doesn't matter that he was a JuCo. He was a player that could have had an immediate impact on the field next year which would have helped us in rebuilding, immensely. And even though this may come accross as an "I told you so", it's not meant to be. Anytime a recruit that is supposedly 100% committed starts listening to another team at the eleventh hour, alarm bells should start ringing. That's not 100% committed. And his getting upset about people talking about it was further proof that he was unsure of his committment.

I don't hate the young man himself, but I hate the way he handled his recruiting. It showed a lack of honor. I get this is a life changing decision for him, but if this were my son, I'd be extremely upset and disappointed with him. Not because he changed his mind, but because he didn't man up and just admit weeks ago he was on the fence. He led our coaches along, basically lying to them. That kind of action is shameful, but unfortunately, all too much a part of recruiting today. Football recruiting shows a microcosm of one of the main problems I see in the world today. Young people refuse to act responsibly, and with dignity. They prefer to make everything a show. In other words, too much ego.

To you Mr. Lambert, I hope you at least learn to be a good man. I don't really care about your success on the field. I won't wish you to fail(I don't expect that you will fail), but what will be will be. Get your education. Grow as a person, because you have lots of room there. Learn to be humble, and learn to act with honor. A man's word should mean everything, but unfortunately, that's just not the way of the world anymore.

what a classless dick you are attacking a kid.

I don't wish failure on Lambert, but let's not get carried away with calling him a kid. He's a JuCo, so I'd guess he's at least 19, more likely 20. That's young, but it's still old enough to know what integrity is. I'm mad that he flipped, though not mad at him that he flipped. What makes me upset with him is how he flipped. Waiting to the last second is a bs move and shows a lack of character. He's obviously had doubts for at least a few weeks. If you're not 100% committed, don't claim to be. Be truthful and upfront. Yeah, there will still be jerks who mouth off about him, but at least then he(Lambert) would have handled it with class himself. That's not what he did. Young or not, he's still a man and should have acted like one. He didn't.

My understanding is that someone at Auburn told Lambert that Tennessee wouldn't be going to bowl games in the near future because of the Mo Couch incident , which is not not true. This is the kind of negative recruitment used in the process.
The kid would have to be borderline mentally incompetent to believe that.

VolFootballlover, get the **** over it...he is not a damn kid. If he was raised right, then he would not have lied and would have handled himself better. I was taught from about age 9-10 that my word is my bond and that if I ever go back on it, there is no getting it back. Like a lot of the other posters on here have stated...if he would have just called and told CBJ...look Coach, I am really having doubts and being that this is the biggest decision of my life up until now, I would like to reevaluate my decision and make a final one on Wednesday. I hope you understand and will back whichever route I take in my life.

He ain't no man. A real man doesn't go back on his word.

The old, "you would say that to his face" tactic.

I would have zero problem saying that he is a liar and not a man of his word.

Agreed. If I met him tomorrow, I would have no problem telling him he handled his recruiting process poorly. I'm sure there's lots of pressure on these young men, but life is about pressure. How you handle that pressure is what defines you as a man. It's one thing if Lambert comes forward 3 weeks ago and says he's not 100% sure and is reopening his recruiting to make sure he makes the right choice for himself. It's another to maintain up until today he's 100% Vol. Just don't lie about it. It really is that simple.

I don't wish the kid injury or anything like that, that's just over the line. I do hope that karma teaches him though how crappy what he did was. In the grand scheme, just a douche bag liar that should fit right in at Auburn.

This is the kind of thing that causes me to lose respect for recruits. Say what you want about them being "kids." Integrity is not a trait you magically acquire when you hit a certain age. This kind of thing is nothing more than a lack of integrity. I've got no respect for that.

Coaches do the same thing. Bottom line is, there is no integrity in the game period. Would loved to have had Lambert, but he made his choice. After careful thought and consideration he bought Auburn 's pitch over Tennessee 's. He is not a VFL. He would not have fit in with this bunch.

Sometimes, you have to go back on your word, but it's never something that should be done casually, or as non-chalantly as Lambert apparently did today. Situations change, which sometimes require your actions change as well, but never throw your word in the trash without explanation. When someone comes to me and says face to face "things have changed", I may get upset, but at least I can respect that they had the courage and the dignity to face me man to man and explain. And I don't mean to attack this young man, and who knows, maybe he did have a conversation with CBJ that was never reported, but to go back on your word without explanation is cowardice.

I can respect the fact that he switched to Auburn. I can't respect the fact that he told our coaches up until today that he was all Vol, thus screwing us out of pursuing other JUCO DL prospects for backup. It's bulls***.

I'm just gonna be upfront and not risk any broken sarcasm meters. Yes, this is a joke.

Karma will be when his gf gets pregnant and he finds out Gabe Wright's the baby daddy.

Lambert is all Vol! No worries here, guys.

Well everyone is wishing harm so I might as well join in. I hope he breaks his bong during the move!

Whoa!! That is going way over the line!! It's one thing to wish a man a career ending injury, but never wish for broken "medical equipment". I hope you break your pinky toe just for saying something like this. You know, some things in life just cannot be replaced.

I am guessing this is how it went down, if in fact it is true that he will not be able to enroll in January. Lambert continued telling the coaches that his grades were good and he would enroll in January. About 3-4 wks ago, he realized he might be in trouble making the grades to enroll early, so he visits Auburn, and we know what happened afterwards with the in-home visits. I think he told Garner that if he didn't make the grades to enroll in January then he would flip to them. I think that's why we keep hearing something happened 2 days ago that changed his mind. I think he got his grades and saw he couldn't enroll; therefore, since he felt guilty for lying to the coaches, he flipped so that he wouldn't have to face them. JMO TIFWIW.

I think this is spot on and exactly what happened. With two D's and an F...he won't get into AU either.

Then why would Auburn take him?

Or are you so naive to believe some poster on the internet knows his grades...the same poster who said "No worries, he's a Vol!!!!" just a day ago?

Because VOL74 knows what is going on in the Coach's circle and has a track record of being right and was just as surprised as CBJ. Please don't call me naive again until you understand my position. That's really weak. Grades just came out and hr can't get in any school today.

You know what's funny as hell? He says that Garner will "coach him up to get him NFL ready". Now correct me if I'm wrong, but Garner is known as a recruiter, but not quite so good as a coach. I think Strip would have served him better there.

The Scout article talks about how Blair was THE guy we couldn't lose with Tiny leaving and went though the numbers on DL. We really have more than we realize, but it's still a tough loss.
