'14 JUCO LB Chris Weatherd (UT Signee 2/5/14)

LOL It doesn't affect his status as a commitment. LB is a huge need and he's the #1 OLB in JUCO. It's been known for a while that he wasnt likely to be an EE. Whoever started that stuff about them not taking JUCO's who aren't EE's have some very bad information or misinterpreted what has been said. The only thing that has been said is they prefer their JUCO's to be EE's, just like every other staff in the country.

I believe this is the case

Ron has stated this several times.

I've never said they won't take JUCO non-EE's. But if you look at the JUCO's they're recruiting, they're all EE's if I'm not mistaken. And the VQ guys have said it's a big deal for this staff, wanting JUCO's who are EE's. I don't know if it's a deal breaker or not but I do know that Lauderdale was originally going to be an EE when he committed, he then decommitted, and his spot was filled soon after with a JUCO EE WR. Others have speculated on this as well, not just me.

I'd like to know too. Who has been saying this?? The only thing I've seen is they "prefer" the JC's to be EE's, doesn't mean they wouldn't take some who arent.

Exactly...people just read into whatever they want to fit "their" agendas. You are correct, they "prefer" them to be EE's. Maybe it's a sliding scale on talent. This kid is a take whenever he can get on campus as long as you get him on campus.

This. I've seen them state that this staff "prefers" JUCO's to be EE's, but I've never seen them say anything about them absolutely not taking a JUCO player who isn't an EE.

There is no way they'll pass on Weatherd IMO. It's been said by Paul and others for a while that Tennessee didn't think he'd end up being an EE, but they sure haven't stopped recruiting him.

JUCO Commits:

Lambert - EE
Weatherd - Was EE until today
Blair - EE
Pearson - EE

Top JUCO Targets:

Lamin - EE
Reed - EE
Heurtelou - EE
Judd - EE
Gennessy - EE
McDowdell - EE

Not saying they won't keep Weatherd as LB is a huge need and he's a good one but I guarantee you that was a big factor in his recruitment.

Stupid question but how many days/weeks more do EE's have with the team than a non EE?

So far I believe Bates is our only other outside backer we have committed. Need to keep Weatherd even if he is a non EE JUCO.

EE's start school in January, go thru the S&C training, spring practice, O&W game, summer workouts then fall camp. Non EE's don't typically show up until summer sometime if they enroll in summer school, some not until fall camp. It's a very big deal, especially for JUCO's.

Bowl practice??

I can't recall if its part of it

That's what I thought thanks. Really unfortunate..

Would be a shame to miss on a talent this big but I understand and actually kind of like the whole jucos should be EEs thing.

At this stage, I assume ee or not, the staff should only drop him if they can get someone even better, which is not necessarily likely. However, if they did, we can all assume they'd be shooting for Clifton Garrett or Jakob Johnson.

I don't think JUCO's can participate in bowl practice but I could be wrong.

It's been so long since we've been to a bowl it's hard to remember, but I do remember some of the ee's practicing for the bowl game a few years ago. I don't remember the details but I know it wasn't all of the ee's and I think Matt Simms was one of them. Maybe it had something to do with when they enrolled or when they graduated.

Wait, speculation that some took as fact turned out to be untrue? Color me surprised.

Ron never said nor quoted any sources that said our coaches would only take JUCOs who were EEs but now some people are all "is he still a take?!?!"

Come on y'all - get with it a little bit.

You're right. Some did come in and practice. It's was just a few. May have something to do with when a High School's semester ends.
