'14 JUCO LB Chris Weatherd (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Would be a shame to miss on a talent this big but I understand and actually kind of like the whole jucos should be EEs thing.

At this stage, I assume ee or not, the staff should only drop him if they can get someone even better, which is not necessarily likely. However, if they did, we can all assume they'd be shooting for Clifton Garrett or Jakob Johnson.

Jakob Johnson is not better...

IMO it comes down to how close the Jucos are. If Juco A and Juco B are of similar talent and Juco A is an EE, seems the staff would go that direction 1st. If the staff has a Juco OLB on their board that they like similar to Weatherd, his new non EE status could come into play IMO.

Hope he sticks as I think he will be a good player for the Vols.

I would also put Evans in there since he is a 4* outside backer visiting for the Auburn game, although he is a strong Auburn lean himself.

You would think that it would technically be okay for ee's to practice during bowl week. Can't see how it is any different than regular enrollees going through practice prior to fall semester.

Probably just comes down to the time of admittance. There may be a mini-term during the Winter Break also.

I'm 90% sure some of the EEs practiced a few years back during the prep for the Music City Bowl.

It's safe to assume the high schoolers must have completed their high school semester (which means they will have "graduated"), but I have no idea how restricted JUCOs might be.

I will never owe an apology to Fortenberry for a player who won't end up a Vol.

I just have a feeling this one is going to be a dog fight til the end.

With this staff and their ability to recruit, I'm not so sure they will have to fight for him to the end. Things seem to have a way of working out and commits seem to fill spots if ever a concern arises with another one. Win / Win situation with this one I believe.

In the back of my mind I have felt the no visit rule would cost us somebody. This one is the top of the follow list for that IMO

Why? We talked him out of the biggest game of the year and he is still a Vol. Not being an EE has nothing to do with it IMO.

Explain???

I think the apology post were intended for me. I appologized like I should have. If you posted similar stuff you should follow suite

I'm not indicting my self, I'm simply saying, I would never justify an apology to a beat writer for Volquest because he ended up being right about something.

The EE thing wasn't part of that thinking

I just think sooner or later another staff is going to convince a kid to take a secret visit and flip a kid. Happens alot of other places just hoping it doesn't to us

The kid threw him under the bus when he said he wouldn't EE and now fort was correct all along.

Those of us that questions fort were wrong. It's that simple

That's fine. If a kid is willing to take a secret visit, he is obviously wavering and shouldn't be committed anyhow.

Would that put us over the 85(?) limit? Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. I'm so out of the loop when it comes to this sort of thing.

Has the staff been recruiting him all along with the understanding that he would be an EE? If he told Fort, I'm assuming he told the staff the same?

I can't imagine that this would not have a major impact on the staffs recruiting plans. How this turns out remains to be seen. I think he ultimately flips to AM. When there's smoke, there's fire.

I just have a feeling we part ways with Weatherd when it is all said and done.

Weatherd at OLB? 6'3 and 225 lbs with his frame tells me he could add 10-15 lbs. that's MLB size.

Don't see anyway Weatherd flips unless being an EE is really that big of a deal to the staff AND we find someone equal or better to replace him (Evans is the only candidate IMO, Garrett is a middle linebacker).
