It's a good thing Blair didn't commit because that gives CBJ and staff time to work. I think Blair would help make us a more competitive team next year by stepping in at LT and being an all conference type player. I think linemen on campus may be able to fill the LT role, but Blair seems like he would be excellent. Lets hope the coaches get him (plus, he may be a 5* by signing day since he is already a 6.0 4*).

Kind of what I was thinking. Obviously Auburn had a big weekend picking up 2 JUCO players, and for Blair to hold off on committing after his OV allows Butch to turn this back in our favor.

Want Blair - he is definitely the type player we need to step in and start after Tiny goes. That being said if he cannot look at the depth chart and realize he will start for 1 or 2 years, depending on how long he decides to stay, and yet still does not KNOW that he wants to be a Vol for whatever reason(s) - then I wish Butch would turn his attention toward finding the right fit with someone else.

At this stage jump in with both feet or no feet, big guy.

Four-star offensive tackle Dontavius Blair, an Alabama native now at Garden City C.C. in Kansas, named Auburn his leader Sunday morning following his official visit to the Plains.

Dontavius Blair
Blair named Auburn his leader Sunday.

"It was great man," Blair said. "I loved everything about it -- the coaches, to the facilities to the players. ... Right now, since this is my first official, they're on top."

He added, "I'm going to take the other visits and see how everything is."

Get him on campus after August 1st for an official and we are still in this thing.

I still think we are in it for Blair - I don't see our 2014 OL as being as scary as many on here think though - we will have 3 guys who have gotten a lot of backup reps, who the OL coach has said can do the job and who at that point will have a lot of time in the program

RT - kerby
C - Crowder
G - Mjackson

so we need to find 1 G and 1 T out of the following: Posey (RS JR), Austin Sanders (Soph/RS FR), D weisman (Soph/RS FR), Bkendrick (Soph/RS FR), Orlando Brown (FR), Coleman Thomas (FR), Raulerson (FR)

this is w/o signing any more OL or a juco - we will sign another and likely a juco - so this situation is just far far from what it was when we had all the FR starting on the OL 3 years ago - we have a lot of quality prospects with time in the program that can come in and fill 1 of those 2 spots

this is also assuming Tiny goes pro - I could definitely see him being the type of kid that would come back for his SR year if we can make a little noise and get some positive momentum going

He could do it, but he needs to take the 40 mil and take care of his family. He might enjoy playing for butch so much he might consider it. Butch would make him get a gigantic insurance policy tho. The development this year of sanders wiseman and Kendrick will be key. I think sanders works his butt off and secures one spot for next year. Coleman in the following class is my fav. He's athletic as hell. One juco ol then would prob take care of things but is not an absolute necessity like DT

Is FSU and AU big threats?

"I don't think Florida State is the real threat here. It's been Auburn since they've offered. When he received that offer I said they would be a player and they will be.

But, I wouldn't say Tennessee has lost momentum as much as Auburn has gained a lot after that official visit. The good news for the Vols is that he took that official visit early and said he's still taking one to Tennessee. The thing I worry about if I'm the Vols is if since his home town is just a few hours from Auburn is that he could take an unofficial visit in December."

Alabama schools are always gonna be the threat for this guy. Regardless of how blaringly obvious the opportunity is at UT, AU will get a ton of help because it’s close to home.

On the AU roster, I count a grand total of three upperclassmen. All three are juniors. Add to that a signing class in 2012 (Blair’s high school class) with 7 guys in it. Six of those were redshirted (medically or otherwise). And while I’m not going to deign to say what the composition of their linemen are, it sure looks at first glance that that roster is pretty filled up.

And herein lies our hope. Thanks for the post.

Some recruits look at it like a business decision where they commit. Let's hope that Blair does his homework before he makes his commitment.

Make no mistake. It IS a business decision. These recruits place a great deal of their futures in the hands of college coaches. These prospects obviously trust Butch and company. If he can sustain this level of trust through a few more recruiting cycles, UT will win championships again.

He said when he 1st got his AU offer that it was his dream offer. Hard to imagine the ship hasn't sailed on this one.

"And Tennessee would still take another offensive lineman and that includes junior college offensive lineman Dontavius Blair. The Vols 'survived' the Auburn visit although he left the visit making Auburn the de facto leaders as the only school to receive an official visit.

Tennessee will receive a visit from Blair and that's certainly a plus getting a visit much closer to juco signing day than Auburn. But, the Tigers still will be a tough task and with Blair's hometown of Anniston, Ala., relatively close to Auburn's campus, there's always the threat of an unofficial visit some time in December once his junior college days are finished."

"One final junior college note is on offensive lineman Dontavius Blair. Last weekend Blair took an official visit to Florida State and FSU has become somewhat of a player, but we still believe that one is between Tennessee and Auburn. Look for the Vols to land a visit some time in November when his season is over. There just hasn't been much, if any chatter, about that visit and we just wanted to let you know where that one stood."

Wouldn't hurt if this was his last visit.

This has turned into a great recruiting battle. CBJ has some real chances to show his mettle in the coming months. Hope we land this guy. Glad Thig is on him as well.
