I hope the lights come on for him this week, we really could use that guy we thought we were getting, when he committed/signed.

More JUCOs "live up to the hype" than completely unproven 17 or 18 year old high school kids. The percentage of JUCOs who meet expectations is far, far higher than the percentage of high school recruits who pan out.

I just cant imagine that so many teams who were fighting for his signature were totally wrong about his physical ability. He may not be all conference, but I think he'll get to where he's above average at OT

Dontavious Blair isn't a freshman, and he didn't play on sunday at all. As a four star Juco EE, he's a bust as of right now. Like most people, he has a chance to redeem himself, and he could drop the bust status.

I don't understand why this concept is so hard to get for some. Blair is playing LT, a huge position of need might I add, and his only competition is a RS Fr, a pure FR, and a former walkon. What's even more disturbing is, not only did he not start over any of these three guys, he didn't play a down, and he was completely healthy for the game. If you can't get on the field in a 20+ point victory, not even accounting for the fact our starting LT gets hurt in the middle of the game, what's they say to you as a player? It tells me that CBJ rather look at the longer picture and suck with a freshman or RS freshman, then play a JuCo who isn't leaps and bounds better. Go ask R. Jones at CB how that's worked out for him. The guy could have easily been medically redshirted in a big position of need, we started two walkons at nickel CB last year for goodness sake, and CBJ said I'd rather have the scholarship then another year of you. I expect Blair to play a game or two, Chatt, KY, and Ark St come to mind , just so he can't be redshirted.

It could be that some players are a bit slower to learn all the nuances of the position and grasp the playbook. That might explain the path to JUCO, in the first place. Who knows for sure. I hope he get's it together. We surely need it

Not sure I have ever heard of "unbusting." Wonder if that is in the dictionary. I think we are all disappointed that he couldn't start from day one, but calling him a bust after one game is a little premature. Let's see if he does anything this year.

“Dontavius Blair’s play has really been better the last couple of days,” Mahoney said. “He’s done some things a lot fundamentally. That’s been the biggest thing with him, with his big frame and all. He’s had to improve some of that, and he has. …His hands have gotten better. His hands been ones in which, you know, guys that have the length like (him), particularly at tackle, he would get in trouble a lot with his hands being outside. Now he’s starting to play better with his hands inside.

For some people it’s a little thing, but it’s a huge thing for us. And seeing those strides being made is good. His strength, athletically, is his length. Well, sometimes with him his weakness is his arms are so long that some power gets lost, and he’s got to work on his hands being tighter. And he’s done that.

You cannot under any circumstances be a bust after one game. Not ready yet is the worst someone can be after one game. If you classify it your way, someone can be a bust, not bust, bust, not bust over and over. Bust means they NEVER panned out and have no more chance to.

I have a question for you. What do you think about preharbaugh Alex Smith? He was first overall pick, and he was terrible until his last full season with the 49ers. Then ask about what you think about Smith now.
