'14 JUCO SG Devon Baulkman

I guess it is safe to say that Mostella and Baulkman are two players that no one saw signing.

When that happens it initially causes knee jerk reactions and criticism because nobody understands/how the Coach will slot or play.

Some even demand justification for selection, that's the old way of doing business.

I don't think CDT is answering to anyone right now nor should I think any fans should have to do so either.

Forget the ratings of 2 to 3 years ago because it is all about what the Coach wants and needs, not the Fan Base.

I do also.

One thing I strongly believe, Volunteer basketball will be more entertaining for 35-40 minutes with a few exceptions than it has been in the last 3 years.

Win or lose, I'll second that.
Think we have a guy that recruits to his system though.

Agree. I can't wait to his system play out in the SEC environment.

With that statement above, getting popcorn ready because his system and SEC environment is probably good for about 40 - 50 expert board analysts posts....LOL

Not sure what to make of students who commit to a school they've never visited.

Simple IMO.

If I am a recruit who committed to usm to play for CDT and now have the chance to follow him to Tennessee, just how much thinking do I need to do? usm vs Tennessee? Not sure it would be a tough decision at all. I would imagine just about everything about UT is better, nicer, a step up over usm. JMO

It's obvious. Players are committing to coaches vs schools. The fact that the school is in a big conference helps too. Nothing new there - both CDT and CCM have said this recently and this just confirms it.

Saw him drop them 48 points. Kid is a definite boom. Every time there was a Time out he was on the sideline pumping his team up. Really like this addition!

Interesting pick-up. If nothing else, with all this depth it will be nice to start getting some scoring production from our bench.

iirc Their were several games last yr. the starters scored 95% of the points.

I don't care who CDT signs as long as we win. If we don't win, then he's failing at coaching, recruiting, or both. So right now he gets a pass until we see his team in action. He obviously has a plan, so let's see if it works.

I know that's the mindset as a basketball player, but as a student/person (and they spend a lot more time off the court than on it), I'd like to see what I'm getting into for a year or more of my life.

Maybe I'm picky that way.

Rasham Suarez disagrees

Suarez is staying at USM with his primary recruiter Dowling. We had three years where our assistants seem to be non factors with recruits. I had never seen that before Cuonzo.

Tyndall's style of play is best fit for a team of players 6'3" to 6'8" who can run, press, and shoot coming off picks. This guy is a good fit and brings some maturity to his game as well.

I've had the chance to watch Baulkman play twice against Pensacola State and i honestly consider D'montre Edwards to be a better JUCO prospect.

I actually think this is a very solid pick up. We compare this guy to Yemmi and to Pops, but their junior college numbers were very different coming out than Baulkman's is. He seems like a pretty well rounded player, and he also has some obvious speed and vertical ability. Look at how much we lost this past year. I mean the more players we add the more likely a chance of finding consistent scoring options out of starters and off of the bench.
