14' Legacy Class vs Utah State

Was slightly drunk when I wrote this post.. didn't really mean to come off so mean.. But the point is, these guys are just not in the same league as UT, I am sorry.. experience or not, look at our roster compared to theirs... it is 3*-5* talent going up against 2* players who do not have the size to match up..

If we lost this game, it would be a major stain on UT and on Butch Jones, and I say that as a huge fan of CBJ.

Haha I actually wondered.... :)

It's all good man. I honestly think we win this too, and I'm no apologist, but I simply try to be respectful of others. These past couple seasons have definitely taught me humility.

Yeah, as someone who was there for South Carolina 2013 I can assure anybody unaware reading this that Neyland knows how to party when we're winning. Just wish I could have been there for the Georgia game.

I was at the Georgia game last year and at times it was so loud that you couldn't even hear yourself screaming/yelling. The noise undoubtedly effected their offense...even a veteran qb like Murray looked very rattled. Not to mention how hard our defense was going after them...I think we took out four or five of their players in that game.
If Neyland is rocking like that this season, our young guys are gonna feed off that and play harder...even with the ridiculous schedule, I think we will surprise a lot of ppl and play above expectations this year....bowl game on the horizon imo. GBO.

One or 2 Fr will play in the secondary. Several will play on ST's. One or maybe two will see time at LB. A couple may see some snaps at DE. I don't think anyone not there during spring will play at DT, OL, TE, or WR. One of the Fr at RB could get some time but I suspect they'd like to RS both.

It is more difficult than many think for a Fr to beat out a guy with 1-3 years experience even when they have more talent. There's an adjustment that has to be made and a lot to learn. That said, many of the Fr will find ways to contribute.

UT still has more talent across the board than USU by a fairly wide margin. All other things equal (coaching, development, effort, etc)... UT has the talent to beat USU by a reasonably large margin. My number has been 17+.

Wait a minute. Are you saying that Butch would like to redshirt Jalen Hurd this year? I just don't think they've, for even one split nanosecond, thought even remotely about red shirting Hurd. They desperately need him to step in and give production as a freshman.

Just heard Hubbs on the radio confirm this by saying they expect him to platoon and split carries with Lane from day one. Not sure about Scott but if he winds up red shirting, what does that do to our RB depth? We'd basically have Lane, Hurd and situational/3rd down specialist Devrin Young. Seriously doubt that Pickett or Summerhill figure in much and Paulk is certainly still recovering to some extent from his knee injury.

Personally, I think both Hurd and Scott figure in prominently at RB as freshmen and to what extent depends largely on how well they pick up on and can perform in pass protection.

:good!: I bet it was epic! I wish I would have been there too.

You probably need to re-read. I said I was talking about summer arrivals. Not guys who were there for spring.

I'm guessing that Pickett would be emergency depth before they pulled a RS off of Scott or Paulk. This isn't a real strongly held belief... just an opinion.

I really think Scott is gonna be a special player...Urban Meyer said watching him in hs reminded him of Percy Harvin. He has great hands and I foresee Butch getting him the ball in space often this season.

Ah, you're right, missed the full context. My bad.

I still think they need to get Scott prepared and not plan to redshirt him though. I didn't realize how low we are on RB #s til I looked at the roster... Only 7 total..... 2 of which haven't played any meaningful downs at UT (Pickett and Summerhill) and have been recruited over, one who was a slot WR last year and will likely only play in 3rd down situations in Young and a true freshman (Paulk) coming off an ACL.

That leaves the 3 best options to me to get the most snaps in practice and playing time on Saturdays/Sundays... Lane, Hurd and Scott.

Not to take anything away from Scott, who I think will be a great back at Tennessee, but Urbz says this about literally every prospect that isn't a lineman...and probably some that are

Hahha, no they don't get along well. Heckuva ball coach, but an even better politician.

You can be candid here... Ol' Urban is a first class liar. Poor Ute fans probably believed him when he said he was not considering leaving... even as he was in the final stages of negotiating his new job at UF.

Could be. I'd just like to see Scott RS to get up to about 200 lbs. IIRC, his "reported" weight was around 185 with speculation that his real weight was under 180. That would make him lighter and ostensibly less durable than Young.

Tell me about being a Vol fan in enemy territory. I have a small connection to UF, my brother-in-law attended law school there.

Honestly, we aren't a threat to gator fans. They have owned us for over 20 years. The hardest thing is trying to make my son's vol fans. Being that close to Gainesville makes it tough. My son's have yet to see a real winning team from Tennessee. Thank god for USF!

Certainly agree a RS would be ideal but I don't know that we can afford it. Btw, the roster puts him at 188 or 10 lbs heavier than Young at present. Hopefully he's at 195 by the end of August.

There's Beck, also. :good!:

It's a cakewalk & no they have not owned us for the last 20 years. Nine straight against us but that ends this year. Once a Vol fan & always a Vol fan. My family is majority Seminoles & the rest of them are fans of that school in Gainesville. I wanted to be a fan of a school I liked & not who my family liked. Coach Fulmer is my favorite coach, Smokey is my favorite mascot, VolNation is the best fan base in all of sports, Tennessee has the best gameday atmosphere, Peyton Manning is my favorite football athlete & I could go on forever. By the way, welcome to the VolNation forums.

I got it. Out west we aren't quite as educated on what it is to be a true fan. I know SEC schools are wild about their teams and it shows. Looking forward to the game.

Love the fandom. We share many of the same loves for UT. HOWEVER, Florida is 16-4 vs UT the last 20 years.....if that's not owning a rivalry I don't know what is.
