'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

I live there and go to a alot of their games..small town but really nice stadium. The Eagles are one of the better DII schools, their coach Ken Sparks, is a past president of the AFCA and has won more games than anyone in DII

Let me know when you come up and I can give you the full 3 minute tour of the city :)

Lls... I sure will

Carson-Newman has a great program, the reason they started losing a few games is they moved up a level in competition. Many of Sparks wins actually came in that lower division and they were putting players in the pros from that lower division. They run a clean program, have great coaching and put God first. They just win.

Ken Sparks is still coaching? If memory serves, he was the coach when I went there in '82-83...

LOL...I sure will, as a matter of fact they have a game in Jefferson City Tenn, on Oct 27th they play Carson Newman, i don't know how far that is from Knoxville though

~30 mins

UT Fans, mark it down! wait, isnt that kick Kiffin in the nuts weekend?

Kiffin? Never heard of her...:)

We play Bama on the 25th, so Dews & ASA will be playing CN on Monday the 27th. Would be cool to have some orange in the stands for him.

Not far at all - less than 30 mins. :)

FWIW, Carson Newman used to be a powerhouse in their division. They've slipped a little (2 losses in 2013 - lol) but for ages they were unstoppable. They've produced over 10 NFL players and considering they're a D2 school and a very small one at that it's pretty amazing.

That kind of competition is definitely gonna be good prep for Jerome. Carson Newman really is one of those schools that could make the jump to D1 as they have players that could've played anywhere. The only thing that holds them back is being a small private school.

Back in the days when Tennessee was winning 10-12 games/ year, Carson Newman got a ton of players who, for one reason or another, did not play at Tennessee. Sparks got the core of his teams from Tennessee and won a lot of games with this players. Over the past 6-8 years, he could have sent a few players our way. Maybe CBJ can help him in he future.

Curious to know what kind of progress he's made gaining weight. Is he currently at the prep school?

I've been wondering this as well but haven't seen an update in a while. But yes he is currently enrolled in the Atlanta Sports Academy I believe.

Good, I hope he's working hard. He has a lot if potential with his size and speed. His dad posted on here for a little while, I wished he'd drop in with an update.

Yeah I haven't seen MDO post on here in a while. Hopefully he'll drop in and give us an update soon.

Wouldn't Jerome still be finishing up HS before going to prep this summer/fall?

I was thinking he graduated early but actually I think you're correct and he won't enroll in prep until the fall of 2014. Thanks for the correction Ron.

Edit: yes you're correct. Just checked and he is scheduled to enroll in the Atlanta Sports Academy for the fall semester of 2014. Sorry about that LandonVFL.

Per Atlanta Sports Academy's website:

"We currently offer three men's sports programs: football, basketball, lacrosse and baseball."

In case you missed it, count one more time :whistling:

His '15 profile on Rivals lists him as a Safety and shows offers from Marshall, MTSU, Ohio, Pittsburgh, UT and WVU.

Jerome Dews - Yahoo! Sports

I thought Rivals didn't count greyshirt's in your class? Isn't that what happened with Mixon? What's the point in making a profile if they aren't going to count it in anyone's class? Are there anymore questions I can ask? lol

Edit: I guess the Mixon situation could be different because he didn't play anywhere last fall.

Yeah, you got it on the edit. Rivals doesn't rank players who sit out a season. I don't think Dews is technically a greyshirt since he's at prep school.

Not sure about how Rivals does, but his Prep Coach is handling all of his affairs with schools, he just scored a 20 on the ACT so these other schools offering may have something to do with his ACT score. But as far as I'm concerned were moving along as planned with Tenn!
