'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

He should come to a UT camp and earn an offer. That's what Dews did.

I agree but some of these kids don't have the resources to travel like that. Even if the kid has a tremendous upside he would have most likely been available later in the cycle. I could see numbers being an issue before it's all said and done. It would be a shame to miss out on another less-of-a-project type of recruit because of lack of room.

With the staff changing their tune from being a gray shirt offer to a full ride for 2014, does anyone think this could be connected to Bates announcing on Monday and the coaches possibly getting bad news yesterday??? Not trying to stir the pot, but is a viable thought it seems.

You wash your mouth out with orange soap and have yourself a timeout mister!

This quote scares me a little bit. Mainly because Mouhon is thought to be a silent, and over the past week he has visited some big time schools with Lorenzo Carter. Hopefully he didnt call the coaches and let them know he has decided to continue looking around. Not tryin to be a negavol, it just seems to time up together.

Hope not. Mouhon is a MLB, where this kid does not look to be. I doubt hearing Mouhon is a no go would make Dews a take. I would not be shocked if the staff chose to not wait till NSD on Mouhon. If they did decide to move on, I would hope it would be to a kid projected to play MLB.

Dews is in all certainity due to his age and development a redshirt prospect. You get him and develop him. He is not a threat to '14 LB prospects in my mind.

At 16 years old, Id say the guy has a good upside. I've read where coaches like to recruit kids that have not peaked early. Im thinking Jacques Smith. Obviously a beast of a human who matured quickly and has been rather silent at UTK. Still like JS, just using him as an example. Only time will tell.

The only threat here is towards the class size. I'd say this is further indication we don't plan on taking a Qb.

Isn't it nice to have a real coaching staff again, so that you can look at things like this and actually have faith they've made the right decision?

Fair point, but some seemed to have faith in the previous coaches ability to find UTR players.

This would actually make sense, with Bates seemingly a foregone conclusion. Hope not, really wanted Mouhon as part of the class.

Not even going to go there. Dews didn't take anybody's spot. If anything a QB. I like the commitment. Im all George Michaled up about it. Gotta have faith.

And this was my thinking earlier along the same line, but with Bates, as he is announcing the first of next week, and he is an OLB. However, I got scolded for that thought. I do believe Bates is all Vol, however the timing of this is very interesting. How many times in the past have we seen a commitment out of left field, followed by someone who we thought was a lock end up committing elsewhere? I certainly hope this is not the case, but was just throwing it out there for speculation.

Get off your high horse. It's a fan message board. Let them do as they please. If everyone was doing nothing but crapping rainbows, this would be a terribly dull forum.

Its not a case of being on a high horse. If there is a high horse its the professional analysts here that don't know anything about football dogging on a recruit because THEY don't see him as worthy of an offer. If the staff deems him worthy hes worthy. Its people like yourself that sit at home picking buggers sitting behind a screen that create a rift between parents/recruits. You're to ignorant to know that they read these forums. Not that they should give any credence to your impotent remarks. It's just a shame to have to read your negativity. No one wants rainbows, but stop your moaning.

If he turns into a solid contributor on S/T and is in the 2-deep at LB by the time he's a junior and senior then this will be a great signing.

You have a low threshold for a "great" signing. I would call that a signing or a player. Eric Berry was a great signing. Dontavious Sapp was a football player we signed. Not saying we don't need role players, but you can't exalt everyone...

I didn't actually post any negativity. I was merely responding to yours. Your itching about people itching is senseless.

Cue Sam Kinison rant as a professor on BACK TO SCHOOL...seems oddly appropriate
