'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

This has been a wild ride on this thread today! The reason as I see it is pretty simple because I too started the morning with reading that we had accepted a commitment from a 2* linebacker with a 5.4 40 time. Who in he77 would ever feel good about that? but as information emerged we find out that he actually ran a 4.6 40 at camp here at UTK, he is young, very athletic, great hands, has tremendous upside and the ability to pack on 30 or 40 pounds and still maintain that 4.6 speed. If we had awakened to information that we had signed a LB with 4.6 speed and 14 sacks last year we would all have been more excited by that news. I really think this kid will wind up as a 3* with tremendous upside by signing day and will in all likelihood have a great offer list.
That's my $.02.

Until proven wrong, shouldn't this staff get the same benefit? Butch certainly has a track record of developing players

I think that is up to the individual fan.

It's certainly alright to be critical, most of us are fairly invested in this program and questioning the actions of the powers that be should be encouraged. obviously there are many ways to go about it. some more irrational than others....

That's why we wait until we make conclusions. Unfortunately idiotic fans don't wait to do that. We need to apologize to the kid.

And this was my thinking earlier along the same line, but with Bates, as he is announcing the first of next week, and he is an OLB. However, I got scolded for that thought. I do believe Bates is all Vol, however the timing of this is very interesting. How many times in the past have we seen a commitment out of left field, followed by someone who we thought was a lock end up committing elsewhere? I certainly hope this is not the case, but was just throwing it out there for speculation.

If we were in late January and got news of Bates or Mouhon looking elsewhere, this would make sense that we would take a quick commit, but not in June..would not need to panic. JMO

Yeah, you're absolutely right about that. The tweet that was posted earlier really made me feel for this 16 year old kid who is so excited about playing for the Volunteers!

Good Luck Dews, I will be pulling for you while you are playing on ROCKYTOP!!! GO VOLS!

The kid is 16, one more year of highschool ball and RedShirt is pretty much a guarantee. His latest numbers to come out are great IMO. 4.6 40. His size and frame has the potential to be monstrous. Most likely three years until he sees action. It sounds good to me guys.
15 sacks as a LB and he really should be in the 2015 class, that's pretty good. And from reading his comments, seems like he wants to prove himself bad, and will work hard at it. I really feel like this kid will be good.

Thing is, a lot of those "people" are UT fans that should be supporting him. I don't blame him at all for wanting to come play at UT. Most on here would give everything to suit up for the Orange and White.

Is he officially committed or did we offer him a walk-on spot in this class? It's possible that he walks on and could earn a scholarship if he performs well enough on the field.

Have our "Idiot" fans been at it again? What the hell is wrong with some of our fans? Better question.... Who's supposed to be on Idiot Watch today?

If CBJ accepts (or has accepted) this young mans commitment, I will not question why. Butch has been proven to have an eye for talent and to question his choice of players just seems pretty absurd to me.

Way too many Couch Potato Coaches putting their noses and big fat mouths (or fingers, tweeting) where they shouldn't be and don't belong.

Good luck and welcome aboard young man. From this Vol Fan............BOOM!

Wonder why scout has not included him in the commit list or had a story on it yet? Hmmm
Do any of the Vols coaches work for the recruiting sites if not, give it a rest my man, lets clear this up so we can end this thread, No he wont be a walk on, yes he will most likely redshirt, yes its a full scholly offer, and stop worrying about websites posting commits, it will come soon enough, the way you talking you would think you have B. Jones and Thigpen on speed dial, and if you do give them a call and hear from the head Vols mouth, because thats where we got our info from....That is all!!!
