'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

I think it is a possibility is why I brought it up, and if the kid was willing, I can see it happening

Doesn't bother me at all, and with the way Butch recruits we may see a lot more of this type thing

A greyshirt for Paulk may be better for him anyway. Saves his redshirt. I believe that one is more clear cut.

a scholarship offer is not a guarantee and even if a scholarship is accepted and a kid shows up on campus it is not a 4 year guarantee - also most of earth is in a job without such guarantee and a marriage without such guarantee and the ability to keep breathing that comes without a guarantee

if you want a guarantee shop on amazon

but let's move the $#%# on from these debates

I just used my first like on this one. Well said.

This is part of the quote he gave me when he committed...

"Orrrrder up! BruinVol, table of one."

Couldn't agree more from moving on, but nonetheless, it was always a possibility he would grey-shirt, that was from the staff, there wasn't anything shady, Jerome always knew that was possible, IMO they were waiting on some others to commit which was fine, business is business, because he was not on their radar is why i think they wanted to make room for him. And him saying he is better than a grey shirt, was a kid not understanding the opportunity being afforded to him at the time, sure he has other options, options that may not mean much to some of you, but its big to him, he chose to go with the best staff/program, the best opportunity and the best situation for Jerome, whether it be 2014 or 2015, god willing, Mr Dews will be relocating to Knoxville!!!

This right here should be the last word about the Dews greyshirt saga. Time for us all to welcome a real VFL and move on.

The score here in the bottom of the 9th at Volnation stadium:

Sensible people arguing against BruinVol- Still undefeated
BruinVol- Still winless

MDObserver, while you're here do you have anything to say on Jerome's teammate Keiron Howard?

Thanks for the info you bring btw

Never, ever, attempt to judge the motives of another person...be that our staff, or a player we are recruiting. You simply cannot know them, the situation, the influences, their perspectives, or their history well enough to judge correctly. Tweets are a brief glimpse of one moment in time. Things change. You don't know what was said, how it was said, when it was said, and by whom it was said. Give. It. A. Rest.

When folks like Bruin always see the worst in a situation...assuming that our staff has been shady...while arriving at those conclusions with second hand information at best...and usually just blind conjecture...it is annoying at minimum, and potentially destructive at worst. Nothing about this process will ever be completely black and white. It simply won't. But if they make a habit of screwing kids, it will bite them...but guess what? This isn't their first rodeo. They well know how to get where we need to be without breaking trust, even when that involves a process that is fluid.

Please...please...before all that is holy and right. Don't. Just don't. Really.

Thanks, I'll check that out. Definitely like Keiron's game even though his offer list isn't extensive yet.

I am binging proof that our staff didn't tell this kid and family this was a grey shirt from the beginning like was reported.

I know it crushes you posters that think our coaches would never do anything that is close to shady to get a kid to say yes but it's reality.

The reality is our staff isn't afraid to participate in the "shady" part of the game.

Bruin, you really don't have a clue as usual. Your revisionist history is comical. The day Dews commited it was reported by every Knoxville's news outlet and radio show along with sites like volquest and by Callahan form 247 that he was a possible greyshirt.

Who do you think all of these various news sources got this information from? Are you dumb enough to honestly believe that our coaches and administration told this many news outlets about the possibility of Dews greyshirting (which to my knowledge has been the only recruit in this class that was clearly linked publically that greyshirting may be an option depending on how our class filled out and that he was 16 years old and it was relayed from BRAJP that the coaches loved Dews at camp, but he was 16 and still growing and they knew he is an elite athlete with a ton of potential but were unsure of how his body will grow since he is still so young).

I love how you take some quotes from Dews and suddenly run with that idea, when in actuality you couldn't be more wrong. It's obvious if you read between the lines Dews like any good player is highly competitive and wants to join UT now and play. Of course he doesn't want to greyshirt all things being equal. But considering his size, the talent this class is bringing in, he would almost assuredly redshirt next year anyhow. Might as well save that year of eligibility, he's underage anyhow.

Nice try spinning your bs tho bruin.

I wish I could give this more than 1 like!!

Watched Kesean's game footage. Wow. The dude has moves and is quick. Would definitely translate as a RB IMO, but would have to work on power/strength, but everyone has stuff to work on. I'm honestly surprised he has no offers, even if we are talking non-D1 local schools. Is there some smaller schools looking at Kesean? Or bigger schools for that matter? I know you said we've been in contact right?

There are two good reasons to have a grey shirt:

One is for the reason that Jerome will likely be taking a grey shirt. He is young and needs some time to fill out and he can do this without losing a year of eligibility. This is a very smart career move for Jerome (although I think he will be a beast regardless).

The other is for an incoming recruit that has had a significant injury, as Paulk has, and the recruit can use the fall to rehab independently, come in in the spring and not lose a year of eligibility.

These are win/win situations for the recruit and for the program. Who would ever complain or make an issue over a win/win. (except maybe Bruin :) I kid Bruin)

Oh and before you guys jump on me for being the guy that was so pro Jerome, now you're changing your tune I say this; I still support Jerome, I'm totally fired up about him coming to be a VFL. Although I think this is a great decision for Jerome's career, I would have backed him being on scholly too. I think he has a great career in front of him at UT and on Sundays with his potential.

“@_Romeyyyy: I WILL NOT GREYSHIRT!!!! #VolNation”

“@_Romeyyyy: Better get that out there wayyyyy better den some GREYSHIRT”

In case we weren't getting the message...

This is all the proof I need for what the kid originally agreed to and how he understand the alternative.

I am very much appreciate he changed his mind(if he did) and I will always hold him at a higher regard for that decision!!

That's my last post on the grey shirt matter.

The kid is a True VfL

If EVERYONE would put him on ignore it would be even better.

Trust me this has been attempted several times. Tried to put together the revolution myself. If everyone ignores then it's like they're not even here, but it never ends up working. Just ended up taking him back off of mine because I had to end up reading all of his posts anyways.

Wow! Even when proven wrong you still can't see it.

Remember he does have parents that guide his decisions!
