These two guys you named have proved nothing in league play. Also injuries happen at times. You're depending on 2-3 freshman bodies. That's asking a lot man out of them mentally and physically.

2014

CB Sutton/Evan Berry
CB Gaulden/Moseley
NB Coleman/Payne
SS Kelly/McNeil
FS Randolph/McDowell

That's 6 true Freshman and maybe the best we can do with our roster this year. Is Foreman or R. Jones more capable than any of these freshmen? Is L. Johnson, Orta, or Swafford likely to gain time at safety? How about the other walk-ons? What would your "ideal" 2-deep, given our expected roster, look like at the above positions for 2014.

Very similar, I want Payne to actually take over the nickel position. Youth can be served this year. Let them play since we don't have anything better already on the roster.

Also why do people think Gaulden will be move when Randolph leaves? TKjr and McDowell will be going into their junior years as players. These are two extremely high level players and TKjr is an eraser in his own right. He's better in run support than any HS DB coming out this year. McDowell is as athletic of a Safety prospect in this class. He looks bigger than the 6'1 claims in this thread. He's rangy and a big hitter too.

Gaulden won't be sliding over. He'll be locking up WRs for years. Gaulden is physical, rangy, competitive, explosive out of his breaks, has long arms, and looks to make big plays. My type of CB prospect. :)

I just saw in the tweets thread that TKjr had surgery recently. It was reported by Jimmy Hymans so it could be something from 2008 for all I know.

Tonsils or cutting his umbilical cord most likely

I think some of you are too quick to dismiss Foreman. He'll be a factor at CB and is my guess for game 1 starter opposite Sutton.

I agree. Foreman from what I know has an intriguing size/speed combo. Maybe not technically great like I would consider Cam, but intriguing nonetheless.

I agree with you. I think they're giving Moseley reps with the 1s for several reasons. Maybe to give Moseley some experience against SEC level talent so he can provide good depth come fall, and they may be using Moseley as a motivational tool to push Foreman harder to solidify the spot opposite Cam.

Some people may disagree, but I really don't see Moseley starting game 1. Although the has tremendous speed, he's very raw at the CB position and he needs to gain more weight.

All i know is that for the first time in awhile i am optimistic that our cornerbacks have the speed and ability to cover SEC wide receivers and not make me cringe on every single pass play. I am excited about the depth, although young, for this upcoming year. I also tend to agree with Breakerboy about Gauldens biggest upside being on the outside at corner. Not only would he be able to lock down receivers with his speed and physicality but he would be able to blow up wide receiver screens and help out big time in run support.

Oh yeah, not arguing that. Cortez is cold-blooded. Just saying I dont believe he is 6'3".

If he grew into a linebacker, he could be nasty

6'1" is still fairly tall for a safety. This kid is just nasty and I would like to see him stick to that position because we need some head hunters in the defensive backfield.

I actually like Foreman but someone has to prove something on the other side of #23.

This. I wouldn't actually mind Foreman stepping up and taking that side opposite 23. Gives the younger guys a little more time. But at the end of the day play whoever the hell earns the spot...regardless of class.

Speaking of guys stepping up, has anyone heard anything about Rihayd Jones this spring?

So far it hasn't sounded as though he was in the two-deep.

Defensive Back: Newcomer D’Andre Payne and senior Justin Coleman are working in the slot while Emmanuel Moseley and Cam Sutton are working on the outside. Riyahd Jones had a poor day on Thursday. He was beat multiple times and looked like he lost focus and interest as practice continued.

There have been a lot of questions surrounding Riyahd Jones and just how well he would bounce back this spring. I am told that he had a very good day during competition periods. Even going strength on strength in the endzone with North and winning that battle.

Also personally I feel he'll be better at CB than FS. He'll be feared at CB. Especially with all the screens these teams are throwing. Gaulden paired with Sutton on the outside will eat this nonsense up. Forcing the action back inside to McDowell and TKJ. Not to mention JRM, Bryant, Bates, and Johnson.

You keep saying that im asking a lot out of a freshman but Gaulden is a freshman. And playing safety is a lot easier than corner. It doesnt matter if he can stop a screen if they can throw slants and outs all game because he cant turn his hips quick enough
