Johnnie Majors says "Hold up there Butchna! A VFL should never use that name unless it is part of a string of curses. Let's meet for drinks and discuss this like true VFLs." :salute:

Guilty of being in my subconscious Doc. :). Honestly, has there ever been a more mediocre Heisman/NFL HOFer?

They need to look up the road in the hometown of Jason Witten. His alma mater has a great back just waiting on an offer.

Really not the crowd I would have anticipated taking that quote so far out of context here.

You weren't the only poster weighing in on DB running down RB Gate...read posts calling for us to recruit "explosive" backs....

And move Jalen to...

TE! :scare:

True story. :hi:

Yeah, I noticed that. The DB was fast, probably had an angle, and I was drunk. Really didn't think the comment would be that big of a deal at the time amidst the usual sea of RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE normally posted in gameday threads.

Still though, you watch guys like Todd Gurley blow by our DBs and wonder why we never do cool stuff like that. Once you sober up, you realize it's more an indictment of our secondary than it is of our backs. Obviously, Hurd's a good player - I think 100 yard games against SEC competition shows that.

Why didn't this guy play today

Hurd told CBJ he'd Butch slap him into tomorrow if he took him out. CBJ realized he probably couldn't take Hurd in a 1on1 fight, though from the a@@ chewing he gave Coach Strip after the onside kick I think CBJ could have held his own...

On the real man, he's been hurt and CBJ probably didn't want to throw him into a big game like UGA when it was so close. Plus, Hurd was playing very well.

Last paragraph, no doubt. He will probably get some touches next weekend in the friendly confines of Neyland Stadium.

He's a long strider so when you compare him to churn-a-matic Gurley, you don't get the impression of speed...and as he gets more and more carries, I think we see Jalen let loose a little more...helps the optics.

his ability to elude/juke tacklers is elite. His speed is not. That doesnt mean he is slow though.

Exactly. He may not run a 4.3 but he still has plenty of speed and can take it to the house if he gets a step on you. But I agree that he does have elite cutting ability and short area quickness. His cutting and ability to make you miss when you're within an arms length reminds me of Shady McCoy.

Does anybody know how much weight he's gained so far? I'd like to see him play around 195-205 lbs, he just needs to get a little stronger so he can fight through arm tackles. I don't think he needs to get much bigger than that unless he is able to do so while still maintaining that quickness that makes his game special.

However I don't think he needs to get much bigger than that, I don't want him to lose any of that quickness that makes him special.

I think they have gotten him into the 195-200lb range.

Awesome, that's right where I'd like to see him at, maybe 5-10 lbs heavier at the most. His style of running is a perfect fit for Butches system imo and he also complements Hurd very well. Let Hurd wear down the defense and bring in Scott as a change of pace. Can't wait to see how he does when he's healthy and I really can't wait to see those two next year with a year in the system under their belt and a year in a college weight room.

Speaking of Hurd I've been extremely impressed with this young man, he has definitely lived up to the hype that he had coming out of high school IMO. He is a true every down back that can do it all at a high level and I've been really impressed with the toughness and grit that he plays with. He fights for every yard and is the hardest RB to bring down that I can remember seeing play for the Vols in quite some time. It's hard to believe that he's a true freshman. He's got a bright future ahead of him and I'm glad it is in the orange and white.

I sure hope we get to see a GREAT SCOTT get some vaulable carries against the mocs. With Hurd "dinged" maybe Scott can become part of a 2-headed monster out of the back field that Lane thus far has not been able to join.

Need another SEC quality back to go with Hurd. Hope DS is that guy. Lane cannot stay healthy enough to depend on and this season is about the young guys anyway.

With the dismissal of Paulk and the graduation of Lane plus Hurd occasionally getting dinged and Scott having some injury problems early here.......

well, it sure seems like the staff would be wise to sign 3 RBs this cycle.

Hopefully Scott will be able to contribute as the season goes on now that he is healthy. I expected big things from him. I hate that Paulk couldn't act right. Kamara will give our backfield a huge boost next season.
