One combo guard that was not able to handle the point is awesome concrete evidence that it can't be done. Thank you for this enlightening revelation.
Actually that's fantastic evidence when you're trying to get 'the guy'. If we try another combo guard that doesn't work, then they take up a SG position when we could have recruited a real shooter. I don't know how that isn't concrete evidence, you learn from past mistakes.

It's just more of a gamble getting a combo guard then a true point guard who can transition into a shooter.

Were you upset about us targeting Lyle? He is far from a true PG, in fact a couple of our remaining targets are probably more of a true PG than he was.

The fact is, it looks like Martin doesn't really prefer a true PG. Look at the evidence, he has Golden and seemed content riding him out. He adds Wes Washpun in his first class, who nobody could mistake for a true PG. He sticks to Golden and adds Armani Moore in year 2, Moore clearly isn't a PG, infact he's more of a 4 than a 1. We lose golden, but add a transfer in Barton who's not a true PG, and we add a freshman who's labeled as a combo guard. We will lose Barton after this year and have just Thompson, martins #1 target was a guy who can play 1-3 in Lyle. It seems his 2nd best option is a combo guard in Devin Mitchell.

See a trend yet?

Yeah for sure, you're definitely right. Lyle was different, he has elite superstar talent and athleticism. I just want someone who is more of PG than a SG not vise versa, as long as who ever we're recruiting is quick, versatile and can handle the ball I don't care if their a SG or not. I just don't want to recruit another SG into a PG spot. You see what I mean?

Yea I know what you mean, just saying don't get your hopes up for a true PG is all lol.

The offensive system Martin runs does not need a "true PG" as you put it. He does not run a spread the floor with shooters and keep the ball in one guys hands to make plays for everyone. Especially not with the configuration of our current roster. In fact a dribble penetration PG would probably be pretty frustrated with our current roster. Maymon and Stokes defenders will be within ten foot of the rim at all times. Those two will play off each other a lot.

I personally think Stokes is better at scoring from offensive rebounds and having a dribble penetration guard would help Stokes' averages for sure. I think we should get a penetrating guard but that's just me.

Had a good showing at peach jam this weekend, he had to earn the offer that's for sure. The guy can shoot, and has a better than 2:1 assist to tunrovers ratio, so I'm guessing the staff sees him as possibly the ball handling guard they take in this class.

A guy at work told me that scout.com asked Cornish if anyone from the elite camp impressed him and he answered something to the effect of "the guard from Cincinatti could absolutely fill it up."

The kid made a sportscenter highlight with a dunk as well FWIW.

If I were to say we could sign a class of:

McCormick, Cornish, London, Cofer and Turman

Would you take it at this point and be satisfied?

I wouldn't be disappointed. But on the other hand, I would also think that we could have done a little better. But if you miss on your big time targets, you're really not gonna do a lot better than that.

It would be ok but nothing program changing. It would keep us as a bubble team probably. We really need to add a difference maker for 14 considering all we lose.

Agree with you guys, just was curious on your opinions. If we substituted Hurt for Turman I would feel much better about that class.

Unfortunately, with basketball, those that want to sign early can't see season results. I think CCM would get interest from some better players with a very good year, but the early period can prevent that.

In football, Butch is already killing it, but if he goes to a bowl this year, then more options may open up. That doesn't happen as much in basketball.
