'14 OH SG Zach McCormick

Unfortunately, with basketball, those that want to sign early can't see season results. I think CCM would get interest from some better players with a very good year, but the early period can prevent that.

In football, Butch is already killing it, but if he goes to a bowl this year, then more options may open up. That doesn't happen as much in basketball.

Right. I really think not making the tourney last year hinders him a little this year because kids will sign in early period before seeing him have success.

"He got an offer from Tennessee today," Travelers program director Andy Rines told InsideTennessee. "He had a really good Peach Jam, and Tennessee had a coach at every game."

McCormick, 18, came away impressed with Tennessee’s campus and facilities.

“I mean, the place is nice,” he said. “Coach (Cuonzo) Martin and Coach (Kent) Williams, I feel real comfortable with them. They’re great guys. I feel comfortable with the players and the SEC is top notch, so I really liked it.”

“I’m really looking for the right fit,” he said. “I’m real big on the relationship with the coaches and players, feeling comfortable at all times. If I’m having a bad day on the court I can talk to ‘em and not get my butt chewed out. And if I’m having a bad day off the court they help me out.

“That relationship is big and academics is a big thing, also. I want to come to school knowing I’m going to graduate and come out with connections and a degree that means something.”

Maybe Martin offered just in time?

I hope he blows up and signs with us. Martin seems to find talent and he's been getting in early on recruits lately before they start raking in offers.

The more I've learned about this kid the last 48 hours the more I like him.

I am getting the impression he is very high on Tennessee, was hoping for the offer, and may commit pretty soon.

And he'd be more of a combo or straight SG? As of now Hubbs doesn't have a back up as of now so that would be good to have McCormick in that spot

If I'm Martin I push hard for a McCormick and London commitment within the next month. Then the staff can focus on Looney and Hurt primarily, and maybe watch the JUCO ranks and see if they come across an impact PG.

Signing a class of McCormick, Cornish, London, Cofer and Hurt would be nothing to write off. I think McCormick likely breaks the top 150, Cofer and Cornish will stay floating around that 100-130 range, and London seems destined for the top 50. Add in Hurt who would be an equivalent of a top 50 guy and that's a very sold class. Assuming Stokes leaves that gives you...

PG: Thompson/McCormick
SG: Hubbs/ Cornish
SF: Richardson/ London
F: Moore/ Cofer/ Davis
C: Hurt/ Ndiaye

That's a NCAA team IMO

I'm pretty sure staff sees him and is recruiting him as a combo, but with the thought being primarily PG. He had a better than 2:1 assist to turnover in EYBL which is impressive for as chaotic as those games can get.

Yeah def. I would like to see more film on him. It sounds good to me. Seems like we're signing more ranked guys. So to me it's all good. I want London as much as I do Looney in a sense of impact and talent wise.

See a trend yet?

Unfortunately, I think I do...

No offense to McCormick as he might be a fine player. But I've given Zo the benefit of the doubt many times already and he's batting about 0% on his "My evaluations are better than anyone in the power conferences" column. Now, maybe McCormick has played his way into some major conference offers. Maybe he'll blow up. I hope he does. But whereas I trusted Zo and gave him the benefit of the doubt early because of the perceived situation UT was in, it's getting a little old.

That's understandable. The only thing ill say is this class appears differently that his others so far. Has he started out a class yet with 2 top 150 guys ever before, I don't believe he has. He offered London when he was unranked and had few offers, now London is top 100 and a consensus 4*. So maybe he got lucky, or maybe the evaluations are getting better, not sure. McCormick has been getting some interest from bigger programs after reportedly showing out at the peach jam, now whether or not that translates into offers we will see, but I would expect a few more offers to come his way.

Hopefully Hurt, London, and another top player accept offers before this guy does. Hopefully his offer is conditional on what other players decide before him.

Hurt and London don't play the same position, so I don't think that really matters.

Thats an undersized team that will be outrebounded in majority of its games, also that team lacks scoring.

1. That team is bigger than this years team, so not sure where you're coming from on that front.

2. In case you haven't noticed high scoring isn't exactly martins go to.

Thanks for your concerns though :hi:

I agree Hurt, London and a point guard. McCormick is a combo guard makes me think of McBee with a little better shot was hoping for a taller more athletic player for point guard.

Clearly you're going off skin color and not video

He has a dunk that was #1 on sportscenter as a high school junior...Not sure how much more athletic you want a 6'1" guy to be.

Yes but we certainly have to take Looney if he wants to come and we need a point guard guess we could take six players and one of the players that want play this season might want to leave.

It is looking like he will be a Vol if he wants to be so I will welcome him was hoping for a higher ranked player. Clearly he is a good player even though we are his best offer.

If Moore beats out Cofer and AJ at the four that will be a huge surprise. If you put Hurt and Cofer and or AJ in there I doubt we get out rebounded very often.

That had absolutely nothing to do with my post, I thought we were discussing your assumption that he wasn't very athletic?
