FWIW the update on Tennessee's 247 site is nearly identical.
"Ford couldnt be reached for comment after his visit to UT on Friday, but the Vols still are believed to be one of the teams to beat for the Top247 defensive tackle from Hilton Head Island, S.C. South Carolina still appears to be Tennessees main competition for Ford, who has referred to the Vols and the Gamecocks as his leaders at different points over the past few months.
Sources close to Ford have indicated that he often changes his mind about which direction hes leaning, which has led to conflicting reports on whether UT or South Carolina is the team to beat. The reality is that, even if Ford was to make a decision in the near future and there doesnt seem to be anything imminent at this point his recruitment probably wont be over for several more months. For now, the Vols remain in good shape."
This isn't going to end well for Tennessee IMO. Usually when this kind of stuff happens in the end the kid stays close to home.
Right now USC, Tennessee and Louisville are separating themselves from the pack. "USC is close, UT he's always liked and he was very impressed with Louisville and coach Charlie Strong," Payne said. "I don't think Ohio State has started to put on the full court press like some other schools, but they will want him." Payne said Ford originally was going to wait until Signing Day to announce but he now plans to make his decision this summer.
Maybe he wants to explore and experience the prestige of South Carolina's academic program.
Y! SPORTS
sc 247:
Class of 2014 four-star defensive tackle Poona Ford (Hilton Head/Hilton Head) visited South Carolina for the first time in some time over the weekend and the visit went extremely well for South Carolina based on the feedback we've heard. Ford hasn't been available for an interview, but we've been told that South Carolina is likely in the best position its been in, in some time.
Just how good that position is, remains to be seen. The Gamecocks' demise with Ford appears to have been great exaggerated though as this is likely going to be a Tennessee/South Carolina battle in the end. Ford's father, prior this this weekend, hadn't gotten an in-depth look at the South Carolina program and that was a large factor here as he needed to find the same comfort level at South Carolina that he had found at Tennessee. South Carolina also tried to address any concerns Ford may have about the program during the trip as well.
Ford also visited Tennessee over the weekend and it appears that he's getting even closer to a decision. Ford has talked about committing sooner than his originally timetable of right before his senior year and that appears to be exactly what is happening. There could be some movement here fairly soon and the Gamecocks may have some momentum on their side.

Lol. What a joke. No way in Hades would I want that kid on my team. Just looking for the easy route. Smh.
Yeah I agree. He might have tipped off the NCAA to investigate some of those classes too. Remember UNC last year with that African Studies class? He wants to go to the league and he's looking for the easiest way to get there. At least pretend to care about academics.
You could specialize a bit within the DL interior: have one starter be essentially a NT type DT, where they specialize more in clogging up holes, taking up the OC and an OG, and shutting down runs up the middle.
Then another, taller DT that is more of a pressuring, penetrating DL - he'll have the length, the long arms, and the pass-rushing ability up the middle when the DEs have been focused on along the edges and have taken the TE's and RB's attention. Sounds like Ford is more of the first type DT than the 2nd type. It's always great to be able to get athletic monsters that are 6-4, 330 lbs and still have the explosiveness and quickness to clog up OL, escape their clutches and still chase the QB out of the pocket. But they are pretty rare....
But as was stated above, Ford still has some growing to do....
1. He knows no one at USC. Thus, he would have no idea how hard or easy the classes are. All he can go on is the word of players, coaches, and faculty.
2. He had just taken a tour of the academic center when he issued that quote. It is a thing of beauty, much like the Thornton Center.
3. Athletes at USC, like at UT, have limitless resources. Thus, it's hard to fail if you give half of a damn about passing.
But hey, let's twist the words of a high school kid instead. I'm not saying you twisted his words. That falls on the authors of that article you posted.
