'14 SC DT Poona Ford

The only way Miles qualifies as a "great coach" is by the Fulmer definition...great recruiter and delegator to talented assistants and with a knack for getting great performance out of said recruits...all while paying due diligence to tradition, pride and overall school vision. In his heyday Fulmer was IMO great...so I guess grasseatinglesistoo

I agree in principal, but I'd still put Fulmer above Miles when both were at their best. Fulmer had elite offenses and defenses in his heyday.

I felt before we got CBJ that he made a lot more sense than hiring Stong. He had proven as much or more as a HC and we could get him for a million dollars less per year. Glad it played out like it did. Things seem to all being going in the right direction. Hopefully the staff can get Poona to see that Tennessee>UL.

I was looking for Poona info and I walked into the middle of a debate on who the better coach is? Anybody got the latest on the DT and what he's thinking???

I just want to go on the record and say that I did not mean to insinuate that I thought that Strong was a better coach than Jones. I was strickly pointing out what "I thought" might be the perception of some of these young 18 year old kids when making their decision b/w UL and UT. I think that most kids believe that he Strong is a really good coach. True he has a ways to go before he can truly be recognized as "great", but I do believe that he doing alot of great things up in Lousiville right now, which is an advantage that he has over Jones, who is a first year coach. Jones has shown that he can do good things at two other schools, but he does not have that success yet at UT. I'm just saying, it matters.

Louisville is a basketball school. That also matters.

Good point. Although, I think that only hurts when it "overshadows" a football program. Until, Louisville's football goes into the toilet, I think it could actually help. My roomate played footbally at UT. We had basketball players over at the appartment. They all interact and pull for one another. Why do you think our coaches have invited big time recruits to some of the big baskettball games (i.e., Kentucky vs UT). Kids love it.

With all that said, once UL starts playing Miami, FSU, Clemson, etc. on an annual bases, I believe that they won't be experiencing the same success. But until that day comes, I dont think UL being a great baskeball school necessarily hurts. Just playing devils advocate :dunno:, but there is truth to what you said in many cases.

I'd take miles off the list. For an offensive head coach to have such a mediocre offense every year, that means he's not great. He's a benefactor of am elite defense every year that is due mostly to Chavis. The others I'd agree with.

Figured Miles inclusion would get the most dissenting opinions. I know he'd goofy as hell and unorthodoxed but its hard to disagree with his results, his NC and the perennial Top 5 team he produces.

Perennial terrible/mediocre offense when he's an offensive coach. He's a below average coach without Chavis. Perennial elite defense is the only thing that keeps them in the top 5 every year.

And his Louisville success was one year in the Big East and not the ACC. The competition will get stiffer for Strong moving forward.

Agree to disagree. Back to Poona....

LSU did rank better than we did 3 out of the last 5 years in offense(2008, 2010, 2011). The last 2 years they have averaged about 30 and 39 points a game and over 375 yards a game. Their offense is not as bad as some claim it is.

Are we still leading with Poona? Sorry I hate to interrupt your conversation on the Poona thread...that's not about Poona Ford.

Thanks for getting us back on track..We got sidetracked on the subject of great leaders...such as yourself

Ridiculous? He's a likable guy and great coach for sure that has made a living sticking it up his home states azz! So what's your point?

I guess my point is your whole post above was ridiculous IMO - no need to be so disrespectful.

I understand the hate, but I can still respect what Spurrier has accomplished. It's impressive to say the least - he has been a winner in college everywhere he has ever coached.

Okay, please go back and read through the thread. This isn't an argument about the future of Strong and Lousiville. It' about Poona's recruitment and his perception (or any other 18 year old kid's perception) of Louisville football and Strong at the present and what impact it may have on them to commit to UL; not two years from now. I'm not arguing your point. In fact, if you read my previous post, I said that the competition would get more difficult going forward into the ACC. BUT, they are serious contenders this year and have a pretty nice schedule that could very possibly put them in the NC or, at a minimum, a BCS game. ANYONE on here that thinks that this doesn't play a role in Poona's decision (or any other kid) is blowing smoke up their own a$$.

I apologize if previous bullet points from my original post got us side-tracked from Poona's recruitment. That was never my intention:no:.

One tackle that I understand USC would also take at this time is Hilton Head (S.C.) lineman Poona Ford. Earlier in the summer, Ford mentioned that it was possible that he would make a decision this month. Obviously June is nearly over, and I have been told that Ford wants his father to see Louisville and possibly Purdue before he wraps up a decision. His father took the most recent trip to USC with Poona and that went very well and he has also been to Tennessee. In alphabetical order, Louisville, South Carolina, and Tennessee are the three programs of which I believe Ford will pick one. It's very hard to nail down exactly what he is thinking right now but I do believe USC is a major factor particularly after the last visit.
