True, but look at it from a prestiege perspective. UL is garbage compared to UT. UL is in a weak ass conference, plays a weak ass schedule, and even with their recent success there is no buzz about them.
Utah also lost a head coach after beating Bama. Not saying that they will be elevated to Florida's level, but the two situations are very different.
Is UL looking at any trouble over the Clint Hurtt ordeal?
Ridiculous. I don't like Spurrier, but only because he has made a habit of beating Tennessee.
He has proven to be one of the best college coaches of the last 50 years.
True, but most of these kids were in grade school the last time UT was relevant. Here are a few other points to consider (when it comes to an 18 year old kid making his decision):
Although they may not have the long term history that UT has, they have the better recent history.
- Louisville's athletic program as a whole is consistently a top 15 program (http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/universities-with-the-best-college-sports-programshttp://). I could have referenced more sites - just do a google search and you'll find several other sites that rank these programs similarly)
Code:- Louisville is about to go to the ACC, which may not be the SEC but its a top 4 major conference right now.
- UL is in the discussion for a national championship this year with a potential Heisman Trophy QB and UT is coming off of its worst season in modern history.
- UL has a great coach that turned UT down. This shows he is committed to the kids and program.
- They have a great proven coach
- Louisville is a great city to live in (not that Knoxville isn't)
Now, if I'm trying to make an argument for UT, this is what I am telling a kid.
I'm sure I am leaving off some other major points, but there is a lot for these young men to consider. I guess my point is, the argument "that our program has a better tradition is playing less and less in these kids decisions.
- UT has a rich successful football tradition (to your point)
- UT's facilities are one of the best if not the best currently in college football.
- You want to play in front of 102,000+ or 60,000
- The SEC puts more kids in the NFL than any other conference (not even close).
- Butch Jones and his staff have a pretty good track record as coaches themselves.
- Look at the recruiting class UT is putting together (You want to be a part of something special, then come to UT young man).
- Academically, UT has more to offer
With all that said, I think Butch MOTHER F#@%ER Jones nabs Poona! Go Vols!
Agree with most of your post however CCS is not a proven HC. He was a good AC for a long time and had one good year as an HC. Let's hold off on "great HC" and judge him over consistency and time, especially after Bridgewater leaves. Chizik sure misses Cam right now.

If UL has "a great coach", then we have a greater coach if you compare head to head records. I would not trade Butch for that other coach.

"Great" gets thrown around waaayyyy too much and cheapens the meaning/value of the word. Strong is nowhere near being close to a great coach. Good, not great. Only a handful of coaches come to my mind, unfortunately, who are currently coaching college football... Saban, Meyer, Spurrier, Miles and Bill Snyder... maybe Bob Stoops. That's my list. It's very short as it ought to be IMHO.
I'd take miles off the list. For an offensive head coach to have such a mediocre offense every year, that means he's not great. He's a benefactor of am elite defense every year that is due mostly to Chavis. The others I'd agree with.
