'14 TN DB Todd Kelly Jr. (UT Signee 2/5/14)

That's fine that you don't know much about Tennessee high school football. Webb does NOT have the toughest schedule in D2 - they don't even play against the top 6-8 teams in D2. As I said, their in-region games are against tiny schools, many of which have barely enough players to field a team. They could play up (like BA and Ensworth do), but for their own reasons, they choose not to (probably because when they did a couple of years ago, they didn't win an in-region game). Just the way it is, but I am telling you that it makes for some really boring games but for some really awesome highlight tapes.

Please go back to your vandysports.com site.... Regardless of competiton Kelly jr is a stud.

6' 190 pretty much ideal FS coming out of HS right?

More than 50% of Pro-Bowl safeties over the last 10 years have been shorter than 6' (I did the research a few months ago, but can't find the exact numbers right now).

There is actually a surprising diversity in size of safeties at the NFL level.

If you include all starting NFL safeties, 5'11" 211 pounds is the mean.

Who is the tiny little receiver in the corner of the graph? Is it that Beasley guy from Dallas?

Todd Kelly Jr. - Todd's a little stiffer through the hips than I'd like to see, but he closes on the football extremely well. He's a high football IQ kid and that helps him play even faster.

Army Bowl: Monday East Top 11

"9- Todd Kelly, S, Knoxville (Tenn.) Webb School
Kelly showed outstanding range at free safety, displaying excellent instincts in breaking up a couple of long passes. He’s an excellent athlete that is almost 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. The Tennessee commit and legacy has a chance to make a very early impact for the Vols next season. It would not surprise at all to see him earn a starting position at some point barring injury."

“stanford and alabama have still tried to contact me, but i told the coaches i’m all vol. I’ve told both of those schools that. Hats off to them for not giving up. But at the same time, i’m definitely going to tennessee.”

“i know that all the guys down here (at the u.s. Army all-american bowl) are pretty great players, so if anyone’s interested in tennessee, i’m definitely going to let them know how good the school is and things of that nature,”
“the only person i talk to now is (five-star cornerback) adoree’ jackson, and that’s because our class is basically full already. We have 30-something people, so i don’t know how many more people we can take. I’m not surprised at all, just because of the man coach jones is and what he’s building. He’s building something special that a lot of people can see from other schools, as well," kelly said

“i’ve met some guys who are committed to other schools, and they’re saying, ‘wow, tennessee has been doing a great job recruiting. You’re going to be the team to beat in a couple of years.’ and i’m telling them that they’re right, because we’re going to be pretty darn good. It’s pretty cool, but it’s just hard to realize how good we’ll be with all the talent that we have from different states. We’ve had commits from over 10 different states. It’s going to be pretty cool, and we’re all really close, so i think that’s the main important thing.”

“going in there, no one knows if they’re going to start or not,” said kelly, who’s planning to take his official visit to tennessee in late january. The coaches haven’t made that clear to anybody. You have to work for what you receive, so i’m going to go in with an open mind and soak in all that i can from the players that started last year, just so i can pick up the coverages and things of that nature.”

“We’re so full I don’t know how many scholarships we have left, but we would love to have Adoree, that’s for sure,” Kelly said after an East practice for Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl. “We wouldn’t pass up on him.”

“I tell him the truth,” Kelly said. “Tennessee is going to be a great team in the future. We have the best fan base in the country, by far. Neyland Stadium is one of the biggest stadiums in the country. We have nice facilities. You can’t go wrong. It’s in the SEC. I can go on and on about Tennessee. It’s just a great opportunity to go there. We’re just looking forward to the future.”

“Coach Jones is the best coach in the country in terms of relationships and things of that nature,” he said. “They love every player and he knows who every player is, regardless of how good you are, and something like that stands out to me, that they show so much love to their players.”

“My job was once I committed, I wanted to play with some great players,” Kelly said. “I got out there and started recruiting my butt off and tried to find all the guys I could. We have a lot of guys and I talked to all of them, so it’s going to be pretty cool when we’re all there to see how well we all get along.”

Part of the new mentality that Butch has brought in...think of a full roster of Al Wilsons...that's where they're headed on the Hill

10. DB TODD KELLY, KNOXVILLE (TENN.) WEBB SCHOOL
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Kelly is not as fluid as his colleagues in the East defensive backfield, but he has such a high football IQ that he is always in position to make plays. While Kelly is likely a strong safety at the college level, he has played a lot of centerfield this week and between his anticipating and break on the football has broken up a number of passes between the hashes and closer to the boundaries. He is not going turn and run with receivers as well as others, but he can close on plays in front of him in a hurry.
