Mom is the hold up IMO. CBJ needs to really recruit her to secure Barnett's commitment.

Franklin has convinced his mom it would be best for Barnett to stay at home near her and he will be the father figure she and Barnett need.
Now, it's up to Barnett to make his own decision and make it for himself and no one else.

Not buying it. If mom were the true hold up, why keep visiting candy w/out her? Some kids just buy into what CJF is selling. As with any SEC school, they will get some talented kids. We can't expect to get them all or expect to pick and choose over the best of the bunch and get all of them. If he wants to wait, I hope the spot is open for the taking.

1. Barton Simmons gets boners to Vandy because he played at Yale and is all about the academic school playing football thing.

2. Derek has visited the Vols enough to know what he wants. Don't read into that Vandy article too much.

3. Vandy just had 4 players gang rape a girl in the worst situation I've heard of in college sports in a long time. They suck and I hate them.

Maybe waiting to commit. Poona Ford implied we were full at DT. Cortez McDowell, Booth, & Bates were committed before they verbally committed. FranklinVol and BigOrange have their finger on the pulse of the recruitment and said he was wanting to commit during the foundation. Not saying this is the case but it may not be as dire as everyone is making it out to be either.

Don't agree with you much, but I think you're mostly right on with this.

It seems DB is more into Vandy than some of the "inside" info suggests. The thing that makes the most sense to me is that the person in his HS program who is telling everyone he's a Vol is a homer.

Mom is going to be more interested in talking to coaches, academic center, etc.. Not going to get that on a Saturday evening. Her not going was not a surprise to me. Usually, the evening activities involve hanging out with players and doing whatever, or in this case, looks like he was watching practice.

Derek going by himself could have just been him showing mom he was looking into it. Then again, the fact that he's putting off his decision says otherwise.

I wouldn't be totally shocked to see him commit if he comes next week, but at this point it seems highly unlikely.

I know you're not buying it but mom is the holdup. Butch has let DB know that he has his spot and that he won't pressure him to make his announcement. Obviously, that could change and I would expect the pressure to turn up if DB holds out much longer.

None of the BA coaches are Vol homers and in fact the staff if anything had to be won over by CBJ after not having the best experience with Dooley. Derek's mentor at BA has a stepson playing at Virginia Tech and was not happy with the way Dooley blew him off in the recruiting process. It's true that CBJ and staff have done a remarkable job opening doors and minds and it's true that the BA staff is extremely impressed. In the end they want what's best for Derek and in this case it's my understanding that they think UT is the best place for him. That doesn't make them homers or cause them to give out bad information.

It was something that was posted as a possibility earlier in this thread.

Not meant as a put down, just trying to rationalize all the information that seems contradictory.

If he's attracted to Franklin then he needs to think it through. One of two things will happen. Vandy will go back to being Vandy with Franklin fading to obscurity OR they'll have one or at the most two more good seasons with Franklin getting a big time gig at a real football school.

Either way, the likelihood of JF being the coach at Vandy two years from now is almost nil.

I prefer your 1st scenario as I think that is the most fun future for franklin; from the UT standpoint. Would really like the fading of franklin to begin this year, but for it to be a slow process for him...say 10 years of slow painful embarrassment for him

If mom is the hold up explaining a trip to vandy on Saturday alone followed by the comments of really liking both schools is very hard to do.


The mom IMO is being used as an excuse from the kid due to him really being torn. He is getting serious pressure from our current commits and I think he is using the mom wants me to wait line to get the pressure off his back when indeed he wants to wait!

We are taking 2 HS DT's. Mosley will commit in 2 weeks and the other spot is being left open for Barnett, who is a Vol lean. They will compliment Lambert and possibly 1 more JUCO DT. Not hard to figure out.

I agree. I am worried about Barnett but I still think it is a very solid plan

Other than the great education he can get and living right up the street, I don't understand the fascination with Vandy. Is it the atmosphere, CJF, or their gameday traditions?

For me it wouldn't be that difficult but then again I'm not him trying to decide what is best for my life.

As I mentioned in a light-hearted post yesterday(I think), once we whoop up on the Commodedores this year, hopefully that will make the decision for him easier.LOL!:lol:

I got the feeling from Williams' comments after he committed to Ole Miss that if Butch called him and told him one of his spots opened up, then he would strongly consider flipping. Something to keep in the back of your mind, in case for some unforeseen reason Barnett goes to Vandy.

Not sure I would count on that. If the kid is paying attention to the other offers going out to DTs, he knows we were not full. He might have wanted to be a Vol enough to look past it. I think he would be the #1 take as a HS DT who could play early. Coaches seem to think otherwise.
