Meh. Depends on your career. I get your point about law and medical careers. But there aren't 17,000 law and medical students running around Vandy's campus. You'll mostly find teachers and engineers and computer science and other such majors. I can't come up with justification for majoring in education and paying Vandy prices. Just crazy.
The university you attend is overrated. I've hired and fired dozens of people in the IT and Engineering fields. A few years ago, I selected a new ETSU grad over Vandy and UT grads. Not because I have something against UT ... the ETSU kid came prepared to the interview and wanted to work his ass off. And he did for several years. Give me a great attitude and strong work ethic any day of the week.
And once you gain some experience in the field, the school you attended means absolutely Jack. It's what you know, how you interview, and how hard you're willing to work. That's a fact.

Pump the brakes man. I made a simple statement that if you want to do Industrial Engineering you have to come to UT for it. I said nothing that suggested that TTU was inferior. UT has its strengths just as TTU has theirs. Yeah a kid from UT or TTU can outshine an MIT, Michigan, or Georgia Tech engineer if they bring the right attitude and come prepared. Good for that ETSU kid, but UT gave me the opportunity to do what I do today. ETSU gave that guy his, and there are countless examples of honest, hardworking kids making the most out of wherever they went to school.
No brakes to pump. I didn't mean to step on a nerve. God bless you and your degree. I was only trying to give perspective to some of the young people on the board. Most kids get WAY too hung up on the school for their undergrad degree. Actually, Masters degrees are even worse but that's a story for another day.![]()
The Cliff Notes: Don't be intimidated in the hiring process if you're up against a Vandy or Duke or whatever grad. Come strong in the interview and bring your A game. There's a 90% chance the interviewers don't care where your degree is from. They want aptitude and attitude.
Size-Strength-Speed
Jumbo-athlete type with a good blend of size and athleticism. Good height and bulk and carries his weight well with room for additional good mass with time in a college weight program. Displays slightly above average playing speed and good body control and playing strength. Displays adequate to good first-step quickness.
Versus the Run
Uses his hands well as he consistently brings them demonstrating the upper body strength to extend and maintain separation. Can take on blockers and hold his ground well, but pad level can rise on contact. He doesn't consistently uncoil and explode into blockers and can give some ground. Displays solid lateral mobility and tight box change of direction to allow him to be active along the line of scrimmage.
Pass Rush Skills
Lacks the initial burst to win with speed and needs to keep developing the use of hands, but can be a disruptive pass rusher whether on the edge or lined up inside. When he can get the edge shows good body lean to tightly turn the corner. Flashes good ability to work double moves and redirect. Also flashes good power to push blockers back.
Toughness/Motor
Looks to give good effort on both sides off the ball whether pursuing the play or blocking. Takes good angles in pursuit and is a solid wrap-up tackler who can deliver a pop.
Bottom Line
Barnett also plays tight end and could very well receive interest on that side of the ball as well, and that could arguably be even a little better fit for him. He displays good hands and ability to be an effective blocker. We feel, though, that he will likely gain the most interest on defense. A defender best suited for a 4-3 defense, he is listed as a defensive end and could very well develop into and fit better at as a 3-technique and either way offer some versatility along the DL. Overall, a good prospect who could help a college program in a few ways in the trenches and be a productive player.

Well this would be your first one then...
I don't see a problem with a little extra, non-thread related activity. It always amazed me how seriously some people get when it's a topic they're not interested in. :ermm:
it's fine just not in the recruit threads. It makes it hard for people to find real info when it's hidden in 3 pages of off-topic discussion
most is probably better suited for

Again, I almost always agree with this, but in this case, Derek Barnett is being fed a line that vandy is the only school in the country where you can get a good education. Not true. vandy is a good academic school but not the be all, end all.
That was certainly how this all started. I got on a soapbox to say that ALL kids are being mislead by educational institutions. So ... it started on topic and kinda veered to the left. Still, the spirit of the argument is the same.
Franklin's schtick will wear thin. Kids will stop buying his crap and he'll move on. Then Vandy will be Vandy again.
