Why would anyone laugh? We're on the same team with (some) differing opinions. Not saying that's not being said though, it probably is. I just sift through some of the crap that gets posted.Still amazed that Vol74 info is the same as mine yet everyone is talking about how they will laugh in my face when he commits.
A lot of people have said Mom likes the academic side of Vandy -- can't blame her. They market as though it's a southern Ivy and if you actually believe the glossy printouts then who wouldn't want to buy into that? The trouble is that it's a stretch. Vandy is a good school but so is UT and the difference between the value of degree between UT or Vandy is negligible. What you major in and how good you dept is matters most.
Also, surely she's heard about what's going on there (no we don't need to be classless and bring it up) so if I were her even if I'd liked Vandy before as a parent I'd very loathe to send him into trouble. JMO.
Ultimately the kids gotta go where he feels best.

I would venture a guess that the degrees the majority of football players at Vanderbilt are getting are of the same benefit that the same degree would be from UT, MTSU, or Memphis.

It seems obvious that he would pick the team with the greater pro potential. As for academics, college is what you make of it. Majoring in subjects like political science, journalism, English, etc., won't really help someone land a job. I know VU and Sewanee grads in that situation. I studied at UT, however, and it led to my doctorate.

The most important part is the alumni network. A player at almost any major school who puts in his four years and graduates without getting into serious trouble should pretty easily walk into a job with the connections he'll get from playing football.
