'14 TN OL/DL Charles Mosley (UT Signee 2/5/14)

I just think it's going to take 4 years or so to get this system down. I'm not a huge fan of the zone read, but it's what college is going to. We've been a power football team for years and years, and now we have flipped the script 180 degrees. Butch needs 4 years to prove what he's made of, but next offseason would be the time to evaluate the staff outside Jancek and Bajakian. 2016 there are no more excuses. We must have 9-10 wins at least.

I do miss the I formation power game we used to run. I wish they would implement a little of that into the offense. It drives me nuts to see us need 6 inches and snap it 5 yards behind the line and hand off.

If it takes four years then it isn't a college system, since you only have players for 4 years, 5 max. Duh moment. Plus, most kids are already familiar with a lot of the principles of zone read since it is a high school offense. I don't like it at all. Bajakian relies too much on slow developing deep routes and UT stunk at the deep ball all year. Truly one of the worst I've ever seen. And yet they had all these tall receivers. But if your QB is sitting on his butt it doesn't matter. But, even when they got the ball away the WRs regularly failed to make a play on the ball.

Couldn't Charles get another RS year if needed? Was this past year a medical redshirt?

You have to be injured for a second year and the NCAA has to grant a medical redshirt. He can't just take another redshirt if he wanted to take another year to develop. The first year is a redshirt and then you see if he can stay healthy.

JMO but some of you guys must live on Mars. Mosley has the length, size and quickness to play OT. He has already said he will be playing OT next season and as long as he can keep his feet quickness he is a OT all the way.

And for the Weight problem you guys are talking about. Have any of you guys seen the man lately? At 350 he does not look to have any fat on the man. Does that tell you anything? His body seems to carry weight very well or he is just one of those men whom weigh more than they look or big boned what ever! The fact is he is not overweight. Personally I believe CBJ is trying to make sure Mosley is as light as possible to get his feet quicker.

But have no doubt a man 6'5 weighing 345 pds with good feet will for sure be a great road grader. And if we are lucky a pretty good pass defender!

And look guys Kerbyson is not an OT plain and simple. And in reality we have only a few guys that fit that mold. Blair, Kendrick, Coleman and Mosley are the only four this season who have the length to play the position. And of the four Kendrick is the only one that showed promise. Kerbyson got beat at OT so many times i could not count the total. Things could all change next year but IMO Mosley has just as much a chance to start at OT in 2015 as anyone else.

I do think that Chance Hall and Jack Jones could provide some depth next year and is much needed.

Will get a shot at OT. I think he can do it. Maybe not LT but RT is a possibility. Hoping our OL looks like this next year
LT: Blair
LG: Jackson
C: Crowder
RG: Robertson
RT: Mosley

I think Kerbyson will be used early but ultimately he gets the pine because of better players. (Let's hope for a couple of guys to grow up this year and be great)

kerbyson>jackson

Big Charles and Blair are the true unknowns going into next season. If they can play OT in this league, we could end up in Atlanta.

That's a good point. If those guys come in next year and aren't just serviceable, but dominant, we could explode offensively. This is probably more possible than it seems.

A path to dominance is in sight again.

It's the Volnation way...hasn't seen a snap of college football, and he's already getting projected to start at tackle. Smh.

Some of his post made sense, but not the Mosley having a chance to start part. That should not happen unless there are some serious injury issues.

But I didn't see Robertson/Thomas starting in the third game beside each other either. That was straight out of left field and made no sense either. Who starts a natural, top center at RT? They rationalized his size/length and athleticism into thinking he would be a T. Wrong. That's the wild card in all of this. This staff has proven you cannot think rationally about how things are done. Who keeps throwing bubble screens/swings in a game when none of them are successful? Kendrick shows promise at LT in three games - sits the rest and they play a G at LT. So anything anybody says on here may turn out to be true at some point until the talent is just so good they longer think they have to juggle. JMO FWIW.

The OL decisions were certainly odd based on what we saw in the games. If Blair pans out, I'd think Kerbyson would shift to RG and Mosley, Kendrick and the freshman would fight it out for RT. Give CT and JR a chance to redshirt like Jackson did, but who knows.
