For the life of me, the Devrin Young love by some is unfounded. His next big play will be his first. He is an average college football player, and that's his ceiling.
If Rollins is dropping anything close to sub-4.4's, he's a level ahead of Young.

Young has had quite a few 40-50 yard returns in his time here. I would tend to consider that a big play. I think moving him from RB to WR to RB and now back to WR has played a part in his production. If the QB does not bother to look to get a kid the ball, he can't make a play. I think Young does very well in CBJ's offense.
Many of us Vol fans love our team so much that we "have love" for every single player on the team. Those players that give their all each and every day. In the weight room, the class room and on the field. Devrin is a VFL who bleeds orange. That's where the "love" comes from for many. He may not be Travis Henry or Reggie White but he's still a Vol who gives his all for Tennessee.
I hope you're right, but moving back and forth from RB to WR (though not permanent position changes) didn't stunt Patterson's growth. Or Percy Harvin's.
Good players make plays, regardless of where they are playing. Young just isn't that good, so IMO, position irrespective, he's just average. As a returner, he's still not what I call a difference-maker, despite his few decent returns.

So you're saying that he's been properly used since his time on the hill? HB dives and off tackles are how you think a 170lb RB should be used. Perhaps that's the problem...being that just like Dooley and Chaney, you don't understand how a back his size should be used. God forbid they got him in space with screens, toss sweeps, reverses, etc. But nah...let's pound guts like he's 240lbs then say how bad he sucks. Smh
I've seen him used on sweeps and plays to the outside too. Nowhere did I say he was ideally used by the former clown shoes staff of ours, but you're naive to think he wasn't given plays to be successful as well.
Of course, my counter-argument to your scenario would be to ask why we are playing a 170 lb kid with average speed at RB to begin with?
I saw sweep plays, etc too. The problem is they would put him in for one play and try to do what was obvious. Then we wouldn't see him again. Whenever he was given multiple carries they ran him straight up the gut.
With that being said...Dooley is an effing clown! And yes, 170lbs is small for RB at Tennessee. But that's kinda my point. They should have moved him around and kept him in space. It's hard for me to say someone is a bad player when they're not used correctly. And there are multiple players on this team that I don't think we're used correctly during the Dooley era who I think will be productive before they leave. One is Young.

Just talked to Fulton's Darryl Rollins father. No official offer from #Vols after posting electronic 4.35.
Rollins finished with eight carries for 116 yards. Hawkins had two rushes for 159 yards and two catches for 74 yards.
