But the kid didn't fulfill his end of this contract...he got his degree but the school didn't get 4 years of football from him. Admittedly, this doesn't appear to be the issue however.
If Saban and others that agree with him truly feel it's a form of "free agency", then you're going to see fewer and fewer kids getting into position to do so. The schools might encourage getting ahead on your class load, but they won't be so quick to have kids on the fast track to a degree.
Quick question for someone who might know...if Saban was so inclined to allow Kennedy to go elsewhere to play, can Bama do it on their own or is this a SEC rule that requires SEC approval?
Gonna be interesting what he does if he isn't cleared.
They need to permanently fix this. He shouldn't have restrictions if he has graduated. Could almost make an argument for him not needing that.
14.5.5 Four-Year College Transfers. See NCAA Bylaw 14.5.5.
14.5.5.1 Transferring within the Southeastern Conference. A transfer student from a member institution shall not be eligible for intercollegiate competition at another member institution until the student has fulfilled a residence requirement of one full academic year (two full semesters) at the certifying institution. Further, a transfer student-athlete admitted after the 12th class day may not utilize that semester for the purpose of establishing residency. Student-athletes meeting the terms of NCAA Bylaws 14.5.5.2.1, 14.5.5.2.2, 14.5.5.2.3, 14.5.5.2.4, 14.5.5.2.5, 14.5.5.2.6, 14.5.5.2.7, 14.5.5.2.8 and 14.5.5.2.9 may seek a waiver of the provisions of this bylaw.
Saban's blocking it because it's UT/Pruitt. Maurice Smith transferred from Bama to UGA, David Williams transferred from SCAR to Ark and Nick Harvey transferred from aTm to SCAR. It would be a bad look for the SEC to play hardball with Brandon Kennedy. Saban already looks hypocritical.
Yes, I know. But practically speaking, how many times is a scholarship not renewed unless there are significant grounds to do so?

This is why I don't get his it's the rules comment. Other players are transferring without issue in conference.
If he said it's because he has 2 yrs left or we play then then I'd understand but it still shouldn't matter since the kid graduated.
He can deflect all he wants but he is def the one blocking here
Has there been transfers from Bama he hasn't blocked within the league?
Doesn't matter. His words are "Its the SEC rule" meanwhile other players are confirmed transferring without issue or needs of an appeal. Saban is being incredibly disingenuous. If he said, this has always been the policy at Alabama, then your point has merit. That is not the case.
Again, this is a terrible strategy by Saban. All he does is show his ass by blocking kids since it will likely be overturned. For someone who fabricates bulletin board material, he sure is foolish by adding some on the recruiting trail.
For the ones complaining about responding, Shut Up. it's a message board and you aren't the arbiter of conversation. Log off. Take a lap. do whatever you need to do to cope.
