Can’t stress enough how big of a deal a legitimate strength and conditioning program is for such positions as O Line.

I don't know. Richmond and Tatum have been pretty bad the past couple of years, and they really didn't look any better in the spring game. At this point, I expect them to continue to be bad. I'm going to have to see the improvement to believe in it.

Agreed. I think they will both be back but I'm not confident Hall can recover his form after the injuries he's had. I hope so, but I'm not really counting on it.

Same thoughts. From hearing people talk about Trey (Swain, Hubbs, Mathews, et al), sounds like he’ll definitely be back. But Hall? Gotta see that to believe it. Can’t imagine he can be anywhere near the player he looked like he’d develop into after all those injuries.

Having a top-tier strength and conditioning program is what separates a championship programs from the rest, and also will turn a lower to mid-tier program competetive. We all know about the factories that are at Alabama and Ohio State, and they have the 3rd and 2nd highest paid S&C coaches in America. But who is number 1?

University of Iowa (in b4 Iowa lol)

But seriously, look at the kids that Iowa recruits. Iowa is barren for blue chip talent, and they will recruit regionally and nationally and take 3 and 2 star kids, and even let no-star kids walk on if they think they'll be a good fit for the program. The result is that Iowa is able to mold these young men into athletes that can compete at the highest level against programs that recruit a much higher caliber athlete out of high school. S&C is easily the most overlooked, yet one of the most critical (thx Butch for ruining that word) aspects of a football program.

You can see some strength gains in the short term when a new S&C program is instituted, but its the S&C culture that's most important. The application of the highest level kinesology and nutrution that turns kids into athletes that can compete at the highest level in college, and eventually turn pro. Long term over the course of years is where you see those gains made, changes to the body, massive strength and speed gains. That extra burst of speed breaking away or the ability to pancake your opposite number late in the 4th quarter is all down the strength and conditioning. B0tch clearly screwed the pooch when it came to culture on the S&C side. Pruitt has a proven winner on that front. It will take time, but we will see results. Trust the process.

Tatum still needs the same thing he’s needed his whole career - a redshirt year dedicated to lifting.

Agreed he hasn't been afforded the ability to pack on weight gradually the right way and it's affected his athleticism. He is just adding probably bad weight trying to rush it.

Be nice to snatch both Kennedy and Womack then have Trey at LT, Womack/Johnson at OG, Kennedy at C and Richmond at RT. A man can dream

I'll be shocked if Carvin isn't in starting lineup. Sorry, I don't think Smith is coming back.

I think Tatum and Richmond are you're starting tackles. R. Johnson is either stsring center or guard. I think the JUCO Johnson is your other guard. That leaves Brooks, Calbert, Hall, Locklear as your primary back ups.

Tatum, Carvin, Johnson, Johnson, Richmond.

Nevermind..I just saw you are the guy that posted about Trey not coming back...

Wishful thinking on your part troll.

You do realize that a good S&C program takes time to build and implement right? Did you expect a compkete 180 by all players? Come on man.

Yes that would be nice. However, I wonder if that scenario were to play out, would any if our current OL transfer?

Yeah plus the guy that made them look bad was former 5 star phillips who looks much improved. If kongbo would ever man up our starting DL can be legit when healthy if phillips and turtle continue their improvements. I think drew needs to move to RT and Tatum just needs to focus on the weights

Watch those guys play. With Richmond and Tatum, their "strength" is supposed to be their mobility, but DEs blow by them like they're standing still. I absolutely agree that a quality strength program is critical and that it is not a quick process. I have just stopped believing either of these guys is ever going to develop into the player we expected them to be.

The style of play allowed for some of those deficiencies.

Combine a more physical style of play with better s&c, and coaching... I think improvements can be made.

How much? Probably not enough in year 1 to yield appreciably better results...

I feel good about Trey getting back at 💯, but Chance is only worth 3 gimped-up games tops to me this season. Hope he proves me wrong.

I really hope Hall basically taking an entire season and offseason off has helped him get healthy enough to at least appear in most of the games this season. Dude has been through a lot and deserves a chance to show what he can do if healthy. Hopefully this will be a bit like Maggit in 2014 where he's finally able to get a good season in.

If he does that, I like the outlook of the OL. His health won’t make or break our success, but good contributions from him and players like him will be the difference in 6 and 8-9 wins.
