Wow. So.....how does this work? Would this commitment effect Jennings or Dormady? Jennings is a EE, and so is Dormady....so how would Jones fit in? Would we then take have Dobbs, Peterman, Jones, Dormady, Jennings?

The only thing I can gather from this is the staff must already know Peterman plans to transfer. I couldn't blame him. That would leave only 2 true freshmen to backup Dobbs. Think about it. We had two QB's committed when Ferguson left.

Even if that means taking 3 in one class, they likely want to keep 4 scholarship QB's on the roster at any point in time.

I wonder.....if Butch and them knew this was coming....and that's why Jennings has decided to go ahead and EE, so that he can have an advantage over Jones.

Dunno. I don't see the staff doing something behind QD and JJ's back. I just don't see it. I'm pretty sure they were on the up and up with them.

Here's what makes sense to me. The coaches are confident enough in Dobbs as 1st string and JJ/QD to battle to be 2nd string and the "loser" redshirts.

Then you redshirt SJ. So you've got a JR, FR, and 2 RS FR. Ideal? I don't think so. But the staff must have confidence that the EEs can progress enough to play in the SEC as a backup role.

Don't get this
I wouldn't either, normally. But I suspect it has more to do with Ferguson leaving, and the high probability of Peterman transferring.

Maybe the staff knows Peterman just isn't going to cut it, and by taking a 3rd QB, he can see the writing on the wall.
I'd much rather have 3 solid options behind Dobbs, than 2 and a guy you know isn't going to play (Peterman?).

I also think it signals a shift in CBJ and Bajakian's offensive philosophy. With Dobbs emergence, they like what they can do with an athletic QB, but know it's very hard to make it through a season without an injury at QB...especially when you rely on their running ability more in the offense.

Prior to coming to UT, the QB in their offense was used very little in the running game. I suspect that approach has changed. And they realize they are going to need an extra QB than they might otherwise keep
