'15 CA QB Sheriron Jones (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Makes zero sense to me. If you lose a guy like NP and feel you need to add a body to the roster, you replace him with a Juco QB, not a 3rd HS guy. JMO

I would rather take an electric highly touted freshman QB than a less talented JUCO stopgap.

If Dobbs gets hurt, we will lose something next year by having to resort to a freshman. But, they are at least talented across the board, and we will get to put the best of the three in. The gap between that and a run of the mill JUCO is not enough to get rid of the boost that Jones could add in 2-3 years.

How would you have responded if Tenn didn't go after this guy and all the sudden Dormady or Jennings came out and said they are going to do some more shopping around and visit a couple more schools?

It's a trust and integrity issue. Coaches and many fans blast recruits for decommitting and changing their minds. Doesn't that go both ways?

Do you know Jones wasn't up front with Dormady and Jennings?

I've seen several Juco QBs that IMO could step on UTs campus and be a solid #2 behind Dobbs. Here's a scenario for you. Take 3 HS QBs this year, end up RSing all of them and then Austin Kendall decides the roster is no longer appealing to him. At least a Juco guy spaces out the roster as it should be.

If we could get all three and get Jennings to go to safety (only if he loses the QB battle) that'd be great

Has been said Jones called CBJ. I understand about loyalty and keeping your word, but none of us know if CBJ hasn't done just that. Now, if one of the two decommits, then I believe that will answer our questions.

Maybe CBJ is going to pull another Ferguson/Dobbs deal. Tell some guys he's only taking 2 and then slip the 3rd guy in when it's too late for the others to look around(after they have EE).

IMO it's bad for business.

It all depends on what they've been told up to this point. If they've been told they are the only two and now Jones chases another one, he may lose some credibility and a commit.

Also, it sends somewhat of a bad message to the guys willing to commit early and commit to EE if the coach changes the plan on a commit so late in the process. Seems to penalize the EE's some.

I'm not sure this is a good move my Coach Jones.

Just like kids can change their minds so can the coaches if they see someone else they think is a better fit. At the end of the day CBJ has to do what's best for his job and what he thinks will help us win.

He has limited scholarships and we aren't in a position just to take a guy just because.

If Kendall bails there are several appealing options and plenty of time to make it happen. We have to fix the dumpster fire behind Dobbs by any means necessary. If the staff decides that 3 this year is the way to go then we need to trust them.

Is that much worse? Would having two RS Freshman coming into 2016 be that much worse? And if we take 3, odds are at least one has to burn the redshirt. We won't make poor Dobbs take every snap all year, right? :)

I would rather add another star, and let them fight it out to see who can be our next leader. Not to mention, I think a JuCo would be more unnerving for our recruits. Add a solid JUCO with 2-3 left to play, and perhaps Dormady or Jennings get cold feet.

If I am Jennings or Dormady IMO CBJ had no business even having the in home visit with Jones. Does not matter IMO if he plans to take him or not. Neither QB has given the staff any reason to think they are not 100% Vols and will sign as EEs. CBJ IMO is about to screw the pooch on this one.

Also have to remember nothing has been said about Nathan Peterman leaving at all.

Well said.

No. Do you know he was?

You don't get guys like Dormady and Jennings without making some assurances they have a strong shot at being the guy. When a coach goes back on the market after you already have two strong commits.

Dormady was quoted in an interview after he picked UT where he said CBJ had told both he and Jennings that they were the only 2 QBs they were taking in 2015. That came from Dormady himself.

Now I 100% agree with this. Not good IMO.

Saban agrees with you. He would never do that.

That's right, and important. But things change. Butch adding a third QB just because he wanted to would be awful. Butch adding a third QB because one is (assuming the rumors are correct) is transferring, and because he had to burn the redshirt of his only other viable option is more understandable. And, if he is breaking his word, taking a JUCO would be doing so just as well.

Good. I try to be consistent. :zeitung_lesen:

No I dont. But I also didn't say that CBJ was doing anything wrong without knowing the facts.

Now, if what LV just said is true concerning Dormady's quote, then, yes, I believe it is wrong.

Peterman has 2 years to play at UT. If CBJ were to lose Peterman and wanted to replace him with a Juco kid with 2 years to play IMO THAT could be sold to QD&JJ and reasonable. Taking a 3rd HS guy in the class would be a flat out lie to QD & JJ IMO.

So, you are ignoring where I said it all depends on what they've been told?
