'15 FL DE Marques Ford (FORMER UT commit)

I don't believe any of those were this close to signing day, were they? Orlando Brown didn't have his offer pulled if I recall correctly...

Brown had his offer pulled right before NSD because he couldnt qualify. Jabo Lee signed and the coaches said they couldnt get him cleared, even though his HS coach said that he cleared.

Couple of years back we were competing against Tulane in recruiting and now turning away 4 stars. We wanted to run with the big dogs and this is just how it is at this level.

This isn't a problem with today, it's a problem with the beginning of this class and not being aware of numbers.

This is how our staff recruits. Same as last year. It's just how they do it.

They take commitments from guys they want through the year and lock them in. Then, if a guy higher up the board wants in, they drop the earlier commit.

People may or may not like it, but it's big boy recruiting, and you have to take guys you can get.

Brown's deal is of no fault but his own. He didn't make the grades. That's on him. Jabo wasn't 100 with the coaches about the extent of his injury. Our coaches helped him get to Temple.

Thought Mixon played DE in the bowl game and seemed to find a home there?

Doubtful that Jakob's future is at LB, many have said this. Plenty of guys on the roster that can play one of the 2 linebacker spots.

And as far as limited eligibility for the upperclassmen, I'm sure we'll recruit more DE's in the '16 cycle?

Yea I guess you're right. Jakob needs to stick somewhere eventually.

Brown actually did, but it wasn't guaranteed. We couldn't take that chance. So, it was still justified.

So we pull fords scholarship and loving good the long snapper still has one? Defense wins championships bad decision by the coaches

"The future Vol says other schools have backed off and college coaches that have gone by East Bay (Fla.) High School since the end of the NCAAA Dead Period have come to inquire about teammates.

“None (in pursuit), really, no,” the No. 30-rated defensive end in the nation said. “They see how solid I am (to Tennessee).”

Makes me nauseous how bad I feel for Mr. Ford.

Ive seen this several times now. For you and the rest of the people who dont seem to follow as much.... Lovingood will be a blueshirt and count toward the 2016 class.

This feels like a kick to the Jimmies, man. Not sure if they are trying to bring in Kelly, but with Abernathy (Butch's former RB at Cincinnati...who was pretty good) transferring, that's enough depth, if it means taking another RB requires us to let a talent like Ford, walk.

I'd ask Perry, Oliver, and even Bruce to look around, before asking Ford to. Dang-it.

And Butcher, Taylor, Phillips, Tuttle, McKensie, Picou, Barnett, Williams, O'Brien, Maggitt, Lewis, Vereen, Mixon, Mosley and Sawyers can get it done.

We hope so, but he's being counted as a commit in the 2015 class, by all the recruiting services, and I've heard of no definitive proof that he's indeed going to be a gray/blue-shirt

The more I read the more I feel so bad for Marques- I know this is big boy recruiting and it happens but my question is - does Butch and co assist him at all in landing somewhere else or is it just goodbye and good luck?

You guys didnt care this much when it was

Dominique Booth
Lawrence Lee
Rocky Reid
Jabo Lee
Dylan Jackson
Orlando Brown
Cecil Cherry

and the others who had their offers pulled.

Eh, I disagree with some of those examples. I think most, if not all were writing on the wall (Cherry was a big favorite, but I think he was Jeff Luc 2.0 and Orlando would have been nice, but his grades were his downfall). The others, I never was excited about. Ford was a bit of a surprise.

Just hope it doesn't burn us in the future with commits continuing to look around since they know they may get dumped late.

Same here. Somebody is going to come calling. I just wish we'd find a way to keep him, instead.

As much as I like the Jaason Lewis kid, if it meant having to drop Ford, I'd just as soon not. Only if we had the room.

They always do... This stuff is hard but there is a right way to do it and they will do it.

Guys look around after they commit all the time. Our commits have done it this year. You just hate to see it with a guy who has been committed since July.

We have three highly ranked DEs and two highly ranked tackles in this class, so we are flush at those positions. But the coaches have known that, and it sounds like Ford was blindsided today. Ford's HS coach said this is the ugly side of recruiting, and he's right.

You realize they don't play DE right? We are overstocked on DE so he was the one who had to go.
