'15 FL DE Marques Ford (FORMER UT commit)

At the risk of sounding like LV, this is the one recruiting maneuver by Butch that I really, really don't like. I understand recruiting is a man's game and that Butch must put the best team in the field that he can. This kid, however, was talented and loyal. I know the Phillips commitment may have taken the staff by surprise but I still don't like cutting this guy loose after he stuck with UT and rebuffed other programs due to his commitment. Sure, ending up at Rutgers isn't the worst thing ever, but Rutgers isn't a football powerhouse and isn't a huge upgrade, if it is an upgrade, from UT academically. I wish Ford the best and wish he was a Vol.

Butch had to make room for a running back. Way bigger need just bodies wise.

I agree.. but dang I am selfish when it comes to having a bad ass defensive line!!

I agree there. The dline class however was elite with or without ford. Lets be honest Phillips is on a different level than Ford right now. Not that I didnt like the kid and think he was gonna develop into a good player.

I still don't understand not asking Lovingood to blueshirt in order to make room for Ford or Bussey. Only move by Butch that I have questioned.

I know some people don't like this move, and to be honest, I wish it would have worked out for Ford to be in this class. That being said, I, and probably every other poster except for one, would have been pissed if we turned away Phillips to keep Ford.

I believe Horky was asked to GS. Which IMO is worse than a BS IF...IF a BS proves to be what folks ate saying it is.

He was offered a preferred walkon spot. Maybe a scholarship the next year. Oklahoma offered an immediate scholarship. IMO it's the reason Butch offered early and never wavered this go around.

Better education? Is Rutgers known for their academics?

But for some political issues, they'd be an ivy league school. They didnt want the lack of freedom that came with joining the ivy ranks.

I think that's Rutgers anyway, could be confusing them with someone else.

It's not like UNC and stanford and vandy either, where undergrad is similar to any other school and the post grad is what earns them an elite reputation. They're truly a top academic school from top to bottom.

huh? Please do share that Rutgers would be an ivy league school. That's news to me.

Rutgers is a nice state school. Nothing more, nothing less.

Where are you getting your information that Vandy, Stanford, and UNC are the same as any other school in undergrad?

Because they are. I don't know if I would include Stanford in that necessarily, but UNC and Vandy for sure. The only possible advantage is that you might make a connection or two there that would make landing a gig after graduation easier. Where you get your actual undergraduate degree is almost irrelevant these days. All that matters is that you have one and that you meet the right people while earning it.

this is correct info on horky. Also On GS you defer til January, BS you come in and pay for summer and on schollie in the fall, Rs as everybody knows you sit out your true frosh season but are on schollie.

Grayshirt, blueshirt. Doesn't matter. Oklahoma offered him a full scholarship which trumps all.

it does matter in the sense of a kid wanting to go to school in the summer vs sitting around and waiting to grey shirt in January vs a blue shirt you can come in the summer and enroll but pay your way for summer school but in the end a full day 1 does trump all. If he would've been offered a blue shirt he'd have still came to UT.
