'15 FL OL Tyree St. Louis

So Leb is the karate guy who feeds the bear annoying posts about numbers? Which then makes the bear (VN) so mad that it destroys every thread Leb posts in, like the lady. Got it. :good!:

I think it is a combination of the OL coach and the OC and the blocking scheme for some of the designed plays. The blocking scheme is really tough, especially when it comes to pass protection for OT's to be effective at it. They have to truly be elite talents at that position. Cincy's OT's struggled with it consistently for 3 years.

I agree. I watch Cincy's games because I lived up there for a time. I liked many of the things he tried to do in his offense with the exception of blocking. I will never agree that it is a good thing to try to trap block a DT or DE with an H-back from the opposite side. All parties on offense involved in that play stand exposed to being killed in the SEC. It seems he wanted his OT's to shield block and steer away from the ball on all plays. Maybe it was a lack of talent, but I just don't think that stuff works in the SEC. Hiestand tried a similar style and it clearly did not work. It wasn't until Pittman took them back to pure zone blocking that they looked like a capable O-line with more talented guys than they have now.

I also want to see more 2 back sets. They are missing some really good plays that can be run from that formation. The talent is there to run it. Sub Pig into the formation.

This is part of the reason I think Jalen Hurd is playing in the wrong system. He is more of a power back that can burst through a hole when he has vision.

Per Hubbs

Tennessee coaches were at IMG Academy earlier this week checking on Tyree St.Louis and may have spoken to Francois after he reached out to them.

St. Louis has a visit scheduled for Tennessee on Jan. 16 as the Vols continue to be a real factor there, but can they overcome Miami, especially if the Canes get the last visit in January as some expect.

Tennessee continues to look for tackle help but besides St. Louis, and an outside shot at Pat Allen, there seems to be no known options at this point.

Auburn employs a similar trap blocking scheme, in some instances.

St. Louis, we believe, continues to legitimately look around and the Vols seem to be a genuine contender, but he told us earlier this week new schools continued to enter the race so it will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds as well.

It is worth nothing, though, that Miami has had several major decommitments in the last several weeks and have had around a half-dozen since the beginning of the season as some wonder about the stability of the program in Coral Gables.

Hard to mold crap

The problem isn't how he dealt with the little he was given when he came here, the problem is what he's brought in since he's been here. We are about to have more Guards than the White House. We need some young LT prospects. If we don't land an Allen or St. Louis, then we are going to have to take a chance on another JuCo in 2016, along with at least two freshman LT prospects. We have one LT prospect in 2016 already, so we need at least one more. If we could land Allen/St. Louis, sign 2-3 LT prospects in 2016 with one maybe being a JuCo, and then move Thomas to C and Jones/Hall/Sanders (just as big as Jones or Hall, if not bigger)/Kendrick to RT, then I'd lay off the maligning of Mahoney.

So you mean playing a true freshman C at RT is not really what you want to do? I agree MH. I watched them for years since I lived up there for a time and liked following the program going back to when Minter turned them around. Those OT's are on an island in this scheme. What I am seeing being recruited to play those positions is not elite. Something has to give or they will never get this offense clicking as good as it could. They haven't even started using part of the offense they used up there, which is some of better stuff in the passing game.

First I've heard of this.

Well, we can all pretend it's ok. We can act like Butch has some miracle powder for our OL. When everyone around us is getting elite LT prospects, and we are landing projects like Hall, there's an issue. I think Hall/Jones are solid players, but neither one are great LT prospects. Doesnt mean they can't play LT one day, but they are projects at LT. For many, Jones is a RT/G .

So many here fail to realize just how bad we are OL wise. Without Dobbs we are sitting 5-7 at best right now. How do you think the tone around the Hill would be right now if that happened? If Blair doesn't work out, we are in trouble. It's all fun and games to make fun of me as I repeat myself over and over again, but when 2016 comes around and 100000 threads are started about how our OL will cost us a real shot at the East title, don't say I, and many others, didn't tell ya so. At this rate, unless Balir works out, we will be banking on either another Juco or Hall/Kendrick/Jones to be a LT in 2016. From where I'm sitting, outside maybe Kendrick, that isn't the spot we should be in after 4 years of OL recruiting.

Your sentiments do not fall on completely deaf ears. There are some that hear you loud and clear, and share your very real concerns.

Let's give Mahoney til the end of 2015 before he's thrown on the vol nation chopping block. A huge turn around would not be unheard of and sometimes continuity and stability are just what the Dr ordered. Mahoney isn't going anywhere this year so let's try and be supportive. Maybe a little positive energy can get the OL going in the right direction.

We all knew the OL was going to be a weak link in the chain this year. If we can see it you know the coaches do too. It will take a little more time to build. Waiting is not a volnation strong point, unfortunately.:)

Yeah guys. Forum kumbaya is what this program needs.

That and magic powder together and we'll go to Atlanta!

Montrell Hardy and another Cinci poster in another thread talked about watching Mahoney's O lines up there... He definitely seems to be the weakest link in this staff. Doesn't bode well in the SEC. I agree about supporting them, but this is partly why there's chatter about him - track record.

Jones or Stewart one can 100% be our left tackle. Jones has a great frame and is very highly rated. Even higher than Richmond on some services.

I agree. If Jones can get his footwork right on pass blocking, I love his attitude and physicality on the field. Takes nothing from nobody.

Still would like to see Tyree or somebody else of that ilk to come in and create some solid competition for the position.
