Are you new to recruiting? "Still recruiting" could be attached to just about every recruit on UT's board over the last 6 months. Of course they "still recruit" them. That could mean they speak to them once every 45 days to keep them on the string just in case.

Are you new? You seem to think they won't take a 5 star guy who was once at the top of their board.

We have a good chance and will take him no matter the numbers sounds like they are after him. He may not be the number 1 target anymore but they are still after him. I'm sure all these guys saying we are still recruiting him is because we are only contacting him once a month though. Right. :eek:k:

This guy is obviously connected to the program but I guess he has no idea what he's talking about either

TG is still a priority for us. However, would I say that he is being recruited like he was a few months ago? No.

I do think they would take the commitment at the end of the day.

Not doubting your info, but I missed those quotes. Do you have a link?

This was the quote posted by engineervol. SOme say Callahan now claims he didn't say it. True? BS? Who knows.

Ryan Callahan...

Quote:
I think some Tennessee fans might be getting a bit too excited about Gibson.

As I've said, I think a number of teams have some serious concerns about him right now. It's going to be interesting to see what happens with his recruitment over the next couple of months.

The red flags regarding Gibson aren't things that would show up on his Twitter account or anything like that.

I'm not really in a position to discuss the details of what Gibson has and hasn't done or anything like that. All I can tell you is that the concerns about him are serious enough that multiple programs that have been involved with him either have taken a step back in recruiting him or are seriously considering doing so.

Again, I'm not really in a position to discuss the details of what Gibson has or hasn't done. But I do think it's at least possible that Tennessee ultimately could back off Gibson. It's a somewhat tricky situation for the Vols, considering that Gibson is involved with a number of their other current targets, and completely backing off Gibson might leave a sour taste in the mouths of some of the guys he knows. But I would not consider him one of UT's top targets at this point, if that makes sense.

Minutes after the above Callahan quote was posted, This one was posted by Hubbs.

I wouldn't say Tennessee has stopped recruiting him, but I also wouldn't put Tennessee as the favorite for him.

Now if you follow what Hubbs says about UT recruiting, TG and UT is not happening.

I've been asked today about 3 things posted on other sites that I supposedly said about Torrance Gibson. None of them were things I said.

You said this in the numbers thread. I really don't think Doug Matthews is in the loop like you think . Why would someone tell him about promising JJ and QD but not one single other person has heard it? Would they not have stopped recruiting TG if that was the case? If they leave because they are scared off by competition adios. He is giving his opinion. All the experts from recruiting sites know we are recruiting him and will take him. Believe what you want. Everything else that comes out says we will take him and are recruiting him. Whatever makes you sleep at night though.

FWIW Matthews is close to Barnhart. They have connections. TB is not that interested in the recruiting piece but Matthews is. His son Tate probably knows Jennings high school coach.

So was what engineerVol posted fake or was Callahan talking about something completely different?

He was talking about those things.

He said its is at least possible we back off in the future. Yall said it meant we had backed off. Not true.

People said Rc said he had character issues. Not true.

People said RC said that we won't take his commit. Not true.

he said as far as he knows the grade and character things are just rumors.

He had to tweet that because of people like you and tux twisting his words.

Just like you are doing the Hubbs quote.

We are still recruiting him but he doesn't think we lead doesn't mean we aren't recruiting him or we wouldn't take his commit like yall like to say.

The mistake your making is trusting Bartow. He is a Miami guy. He is the Canes 247 guy. He needs TG to be a top story. He needs to claim top schools are still after TG. He needs these things because it helps hype TGs commitment to the Canes IF he can qualify.

You're looking for anything you can find to tell you TG and UT are still possible. It's something you need. The fact is there is a lot more saying that ship has sailed rather than UT would take his commitment even today.

Deep down I think you know it's not happening. You'll just ride it out and keep hope alive. That's cool. Do what you need to do.

This guy gets it. Bartow is the Mike Farrel of 247. Guy throws more **** at the wall than anyone covering Fla kids. Makes that clown Langston look like Bryant Gumble.

Matthews is not a recruiting guy. He's a football guy. He broke the news of Maggitt RS'ing before anyone. Same with the whole Pig deal.

Hubbs has said its Van Jefferson or bust at wideout. So no TG there.

If we take TG's commitment at QB, we potentially could lose either of Jennings or Dormady. Probably Jennings though. And not only the 2015 kids, but 2016 as well.

Would love to have TG in our offense. I just think he missed his window of opportunity. He certainly gave UT it's due diligence. Absolute best of luck to him.

Let's just say I would not be surprised at all if they were in fact his direct quotes. He could have been talking about something completely different with the retraction stuff.

The quotes I posted were in a TG thread. I don't think his retraction was in consistent with what he said originally or maybe he straight up changed his mind.

CBJ takes 2 QBs.

Callahan's quotes were posted and seemed to point to UT was not pressing for TG.

Hubbs quotes were posted shortly after saying the same thing.

TSR guys saying TG to UT is not happening.

Now Matthews flat out says UT will NOT take his commitment.

"But CBJ himself has not said it, I won't believe it"! :)

But hey since media guys said it , it has to be true
