That makes no difference to Leb. QD is the 2nd coming of something. Plus he committed 2nd so there went TGs spot. Then Bruce committed, so there went TGs WR spot and now were down to Jeffersons decision. Just the same old broken record posts by Leb.

I'm sure missing a year of high school ball won't screw him if he keeps working hard

It didn't seem to make a difference to the UT coaches. Apparently they saw enough to take him injury or not. I'll roll with them on this one.

The same cant be said about TG ? I have never said TG ends up at Tn but for anybody to say we don't need him, is either afraid of him coming in here and end up being a QB or they just don't want players to come in here to help Tn get back to winning.

Worst case scenario? Do you even pay attention to your posts? You have long said we need to take a QB in 2016. So IF JJ moved to S, TG moved to WR and QD did not progress as we think then how many QBs would we have?

Dobbs, Peterman and QD. How in the world would that mean you get no QBs in 2016??? Seems to me the scenario you mentioned would be more favorable for 2 QBs in 2016.

Try and keep up.

As I have said MANY times, the issue comes about because IF the staff took both JJ and TG then the reason you then miss on 2016 QBs is because by the time one or both switch positions, 2016 QB recruiting is over with. It's not like the staff is going to give any QB they sign 4 days to see if they can stick at QB. It would be months after they get on campus before a move was made if it was.

TG has 1 shot IMO of being a Vol. That is Jefferson choosing to go elsewhere. Even then, I'm not sure the staff takes TG over some other guys on the board at other positions.

is it possible you are putting too much emphasis on depth charts? not trying to be a smartass but how many kids commit to schools "promised an opportunity for playing time" or to start or be the guy when an outsider would say that there is absolutely no chance they will play? even if we take 3 "qbs" in 2015, i find it hard to believe we couldnt get at least 1 in 2016

It's simple recruiting 101. Take 3 QBs in 2015 and likely at least 2 RS. 2 QBs taking a RS from the previous class. Do you have any idea how easy that is to negative recruit against for other schools? "We took 1 QB last year, Tennessee took 3 and RSed 2 of them". Like I said before the issue really becomes a problem when early on in their 2nd year on campus the staff then decides to move them. 1 in 2013. No QB in 2014. 1 in 2015. 0 in 2016. Then what? Now you have serious issues. Better to take the 2 you have in 2015 and you stand a much better chance of getting 1 in 2016. Spread them out class wise and it will prove to be a much smarter solution long term.

i agree with the general idea, but do you really think we wouldnt even be able to get 1 qb in 2016? at the end of the day there would still be dobbs and 3 unproven qbs on the roster if the coaches play that angle and they would probably say at least one of them isnt actually a qb selling it to a recruit as only 3 total

Why do we have to take a qb in '16? Y'all act like that would be the end of the world.. It wasn't the end of the world last year when we turned in a top five class without one.. I'd take a RS TG over any qb in the '16 class.

Peterman gives us likely 4 QBs on scholarship headed into 2015. IMO that sets us up to get a kid in 2016. IF JJ is moved early on, then the staff could consider taking 2 in 2016 if they can get 2 interested.

I could honestly pick any one of maybe 10 QBs in 2016 I would take today over TG at QB. JMO

forgot about peterman...i keep thinking he will transfer/has no shot of playing

LV really likes Austin Kendall. Just like Dormady, he is the second coming of Manning.

"Trent Dilfer on Torrance Gibson (@quick_tg6): 'I believe he should be and can be a QB at the next level.' #TheOpening #Vols"

"More Dilfer on @quick_tg6 : 'If you give (Gibson) a year or two to develop at the quarterback position, he could win the Heisman trophy.'"

Dilfer must be mistaken I guess. So he is saying that after his senior season and a RS season, Gibson could be a very good QB? Wow. Pretty good endorsement there.

Why do you keep assuming JJ will wind up a QB? He is an athlete that May or may not become a QB. We have 1 QB committed, Dormady. You really should learn that. Also the only one who has said JJ will get a chance at QB is himself. I know though, because he committed that means he is telling the truth. Your logic is severely flawed. We would be fine with no QB in 2016 and taking 1-2 in 2017.

he is using Google to look up the names. he will get back with you once he finishes his evaluation.

This thread is a joke... How can you actually say you don't want this guy? Yes he needs a year to get ready! But so do most freshmen qb coming In. He is a 5 star for a reason!!!!!! And for people to say that he could win the heisman in a couple of years???????? What qb in the last 10 years that we signed, have had that said about them? I'll wait......

Here is a list of things no one posting knows:

Will JJ continue to grow and be successful at QB?
Will QD's commitment stick if TG is offered?
Will QD's commitment stick if TG is NOT offered?
Will QD be as good as hoped after his injury?
Does Coach Jones want TG as a potential QB?
Does Coach Jones want TG at all?
Does TG want to be a Volunteer?
Is TG capable of enrolling at UT?
Will signing three players who may play QB impact next year's recruiting class?
Will all three players stay at QB? For how long?
Will next year's QB's want to sign at UT if TG is NOT in the equation?

Anything said about these is speculation, no matter how "simple" they claim their logic is (I would argue that "simplistic" may be the better term). Speculation is fine as long as it isn't presented as facts.

I submit that CBJ and TG know more about what they are thinking that we do, and that CBJ knows what kind of player he wants in his offense. If CBJ thinks TG can (or cannot) run his offense, no one on a message board is in a better position to know.

Speculation based on logical projection is great, but it is only as good as the facts that are used. This has been a great example about the problem of extrapolation based on very little solid information. It's probably healthier to present conjecture as conjecture and not as fact.

Most of us want Gibson on the team. There are a handful that don't for reasons that are just utterly stupid. Those people would actually be happy that one of the country's most electric players decided to lay somewhere else. It's sad actually. As bad as we have been, you would think every fan would want as many highly talented players as possible to come here.

Haha but Tux said...

I really don't see these two as debatable. If we weren't still recruiting him, he wouldn't name us his leader. And of course he wants to play here, that's why we are his leader.

As for this 2016 qb debate, if we redshirt Gibson we don't need a 2016 qb.
