'15 FL QB/WR/DB (anything he wants) Torrance Gibson

It was an embarrassing dogfight between Barton Simmons and Clay Travis. In the end I think that JF's wife beat both of them out. Look for Simmons and Travis to hook up now.

I remember Simmons being adamant about that Josh Malone would not go to UT. It's funny that people shunned him in years past, but now that he says something they want to hear and all of the sudden he's a genius.

With His Freind d. Snelson committed to the U , do you think he follows him to miami?

In short, No. Not necessarily, at least. TG has used social media to reach out to many players all around the country. I would say he has developed what he considers to be true friends from all around the country.

I think what it comes down to for him, is what schools will take his commitment vs. how many of his buddies/ which buddies in particular are committed to certain schools.

*The tricky part for TG now is what schools are willing to take him as a QB vs. which schools he truly has a desire to attend. He very well could be a silent commit somewhere, but I find that doubtful.

Five-star QB Torrance Gibson knows when he’ll announce his college decision | Saturday Down South

So I looked at this, and here are my thoughts. Regardless of whether or not you think we do or don't need him, it comes at an interesting time. If Auburn and Tennessee are his true leaders, he chose an off week for Auburn, and a time in between Ole Miss and Alabama for us. We are very likely going to lose both of those games, with Ole Miss being the more possible win. Whether he's a silent commit (doubtful) or just randomly decided on this date, if he picks us it could be huge for keeping momentum going. Good news I suppose especially since he's coming back to visit Knoxville again. Thoughts?

Good point. I wouldn't be surprised if Butch told him to commit that week due to the very real possibility that our W/L record won't be too pretty. Similar to the Preston Williams commitment after the UF game last year.

Told a few college coaches last year (Spring 2012) about this kid NON listened to me and look where he is now. He had ZERO offers about him at the time I was telling the coaches. Not sure why UT hasn't offer yet, the kid is a STUD!

Maybe

(1) It doesn't look like he would qualify academically to enroll in a school other than JUCO.

(2) Maybe he is like VInce Young and can't learn the playbook.

(3) Maybe he is like Lawrence Phillips is in trouble all of the time.

(4) Maybe he has poor work habits and just wants to depend on pure athletic ability to get the job done.

(5) Maybe he is lazy in the weight room

(6) Maybe he has a attitude problem with authority.

See, it could be a number of reasons that would cause people to not be real enthusiatic about him.

Also, trust me, he is going to go to Auburn.......

Is that how it works now? Butch just tells people when, how, and where to commit? Butch is good but he aint that good. This place never ceases to amaze.

It does look like AU currently prefers Locksley and or Francois to Gibson. As great as some feel Gibson would be in their offense, it does look like Gus is leaning toward a more polished passer who can also run. I'd guess AU would have to miss on both to be back pushing for TG.

I was about to call you a negavol or troll---but I believe you may be spot on. I have been on the TG train, but his grades, run ins with his teachers and "look at me" attitude would make me nervous about taking him. His actions don't seem to be consistent with a QB or team leader. We have too many playmakers who need to handle the ball and not be a one man show.

On the other hand, he could come here or go elsewhere and be another Cam Newton and win a NC. I don't have enough info on his athletic skills to decide about him. Is he over hyped or not? Too many other teams are passing on him for my comfort. My guess is he ends up in JUCO and all of this is won't matter for another 2 years.

You don't have enough information about his athletic skills, but you have information about his grades, his interaction with teachers, and his personality?

This might help a little:

He is a five-star quarterback who has been told recently he’s more of an overall “athlete” than a quarterback, but Tennessee has been up front that he’d play quarterback for the Vols, and Gibson would fit Auburn’s style of play perfectly.

They commit silently, and he tells them to make it public on certain days.

There have been way too many strategically timed commitments for that not to be the case, IMO.

I believe this is correct with the provision that the player gets options and input on when to commit. They all want to help the cause and understand the value that comes from the timing.
