I was about to call you a negavol or troll---but I believe you may be spot on. I have been on the TG train, but his grades, run ins with his teachers and "look at me" attitude would make me nervous about taking him. His actions don't seem to be consistent with a QB or team leader. We have too many playmakers who need to handle the ball and not be a one man show.

On the other hand, he could come here or go elsewhere and be another Cam Newton and win a NC. I don't have enough info on his athletic skills to decide about him. Is he over hyped or not? Too many other teams are passing on him for my comfort. My guess is he ends up in JUCO and all of this is won't matter for another 2 years.

Wow so what are his grades? Seems like you have some personal info about him. Do tell

You don't have enough information about his athletic skills, but you have information about his grades, his interaction with teachers, and his personality?

This might help a little:

His talent is undeniable!!! To say the kid is athletic is an understatement. 2 strides per five yards.

They commit silently, and he tells them to make it public on certain days.

There have been way too many strategically timed commitments for that not to be the case, IMO.

I was thinking that last year. Seemed like several weeks we lost, we'd have someone go public with a commitment that week.

Bradshaws opinion about a QB vs a recruiting analyst? Bradshaw all day long. There is a huge difference between a guy who gets paid to give an opinion and a guy who played HS, college and professional football. Oh and he just happens to be 1 of 2 QBs to win 4 Super Bowls. Good Lord are you being serious???

Would you trust Jerry Rices opinion about a WR? Or how about Barry Sanders views on a RB?

Just because a guy plays at a high level doesn't give him prescience...Bradshaw is borderline special needs...and have you ever tried to follow Emmitt Smith in an analysis role? Not for the faint of heart. Doug Matthews was a player, coach and recruiter and you discount any contrary info he puts out...Dilfer is an NFL analyst and still hasn't had a Heisman CANDIDATE in his charge ...much less WINNER and you gobble that up and praise his unparalleled insight...because it suits your biased slant...that's perfectly ok...as long as you recognize your hypocrisy when the converse is true.

Heaps and Scroggins comes to mind about Dilfer. He also tutored Alex Smith to crappiness.

You can discredit Super Bowl champions like Bradshaw and Emmit Smith all you want. I see you left out my other example, Rice. It's ok because it just makes you look dumber. I mean it's common sense. Why you cannot understand that is baffling. Like I said as far as evaluating talent at the QB position, I will take Bradshaw and Dilfers opinion over someone like Matthews any day.

You sit here and knock guys who have own Super Bowls yet trust guys like Matthews. Whatever man. Biased? Yes call me biased that I along with many others want the best players to come to UT. You and the other stooges have made your bias against Gibson very clear.

So just out of curiosity, what in your opinion gives Matthews or anyone else the edge over former Super Bowl winning QBs when it comes to evaluating QB talent?

Ok...I'll bite...who has Rice tutored to greatness?...who has he anointed? My point with all these players is that success on the field doesn't make them absolute end all be all when projecting future greatness of high school kids...that's all a crap shoot...speaking of crap...your paranoid rants and diatribes against people that don't agree that this kid is a fit makes YOU look like a stooge! This thread would be about a third of it's count if you and your victim mentality circle jerk of butthurt enablers would allow someone to disagree about a prospect, without getting personal and organizing charity telethons for poor unfortunate overhyped five star athletes.

Oh and on the Matthews front? HE RECRUITED AND COACHED talent from high school...not in glorified 7 on 7 flag football...real coaching and evaluation...other than that, I guess Dilfer's long resume on that front makes him
equal huh?...genius...don't fall down while thinking about it!

Wow... this thing has gone way off the rails...

To modify a quote from Doc Brown in back to the future:

"Rails? Where we're going we won't need rails!"

I thought this picture deserved to be used more than just in this thread so I fixed it up. Hope it gets further use!

if being a great player meant you were a great talent evaluator then wouldnt jordan already be the GM of an nba championship team? Oh wait thats right the greatest player ever makes terrible draft picks and cant predict talent so whos to say any other average joe has a better shot? Its all a crapshoot like pickin stocks at wallstreet. Sure theres some science behind it that works some times but for the most part its pretty much luck.

i agree that being a great player doesnt make you a great talent assessor, but dilfer wasnt a great player.

also lol yea saban has 4 national titles on 2 teams because it is pretty much luck and the teams constantly in bcs bowls just happen to have top recruiting classes
