'15 GA CB Micah Abernathy (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Abernathy will most likely be a Vol, but I just want to say something about the CB picks (for any player). People seem to make a huge deal out of each pick, but more often than not, the pick means jack crap. Pay attention to who makes those picks and when they make those picks. Most of the time, it's some biased beat writer taking a guess, or it's a bunch of people tagging along on the bandwagon.

You mentioned Hall, but last I heard he came to Knoxville for his surgery and was a definite EE. Anything happen since then?

That could certainly still happen...but if Burrell Jr, Pat Allen and Drew Richmond wanted to commit to TN, I think that plan would be in jeopardy.

Spoke with Evan Berry... Vol

Hall is still on track to enroll in January, apparently his surgery went very well and they are optimistic he would be ready for all activities by the time summer workouts started. We never really heard how badly ruptured the achilles was, so maybe that is why. Per one of the the other sites (damn HiPPA):p

Because VQ guys have hinted that they are still taking calls and seeking to have contact from other staff's.

I think we will add more talent at their positions in the class and that will set them over the edge to start visiting other places and there will be a parting of ways.

Similar to what is happening with Miller at CB with Abernathy, Martin and Reynolds.

That's more than likely exactly what's happening with Miller and it will with others. LV refuses to admit he's wrong. He said it wouldnt happen, we guaranteed it would, just like every other year. Then when it happens he acts like he's happy about it, acting like Miller is doing this all on his own. Instead of what is most likely happening which is he is being recruited over. Either way it happens every year that's why we said it would and LV still thinks he knows exactly what the coaches are thinking.

But you said this would never ever happen

Haha letting LV get under your skin a little bit? He adds a lot to this board regardless of how much you like his opinions, plus he stays respectful in his posts. Let him have his opinion and you can have your own.

We will recruit over Miller. I don't think he jumps ship after Abernathy but another CB like Martin squeezes Miller out. Especially since we are going to take at least 5 DBs in 2016.

where did you get this number. Just curious if im missing something or not.

I have always felt if a committed kid is taking visits, his spot is up for grabs. If you have been following my posts as close as you seem to be, You would know this. :)

News came out Miller was taking another visit and I mentioned his spot was now in jeopardy.

No, you're just a dirty stargazer. Miller is obviously the better player because he's committed to Tennessee right now and bleeds orange. Duh.

I think his point is that we could be encouraging him to take visits instead of he doing it all on his own. Of course, there is no way to know for certain unless someone says something.

I doubt it.

A school tells me I might want to "look around" and I would announce I was de-committed in about 15 seconds of getting that call. I'd guess he is taking visits on his own.

But is he taking visits on his own or did the staff 'encourage' him to take visits? I'm guessing the latter.

You don't like to acknowledge the dirty underbelly of recruiting. Kids get moved along to make room for stronger recruits. It happens, whether you like it or not. That's the point the other poster was trying to make.

Edit: I was Dust10'd

When picks come in big bunches right before an announcement it tips their hand at an article being written. Its a bunch of crap if you ask me. Picks that happen randomly throughout the year are just guesses.

Ok, if you were said recruit would you de-commit after being asked to "look around" or wait till after UT replaced you on Friday? All I am saying is he is still showing as a UT commitment. Had the UT coaches told him to "look around", IMO he would no longer be a Vol. I doubt he would wait till after Abernathy announces for UT on Friday to announce he has de-committed.

The one thing I can promise you is that the staff is out front on their recruiting efforts. There is no "Oh I guess since Miller is taking a visit to OSU, Abernathy all the sudden gets the green light" stuff going on.

Miller: "Hey Coach Butch, I'm thinking about going to check out Okie State instead of coming to Tennessee's biggest recruiting weekend of the year."

Butch: "Ok. Have a good time."

*click*

Butch doesn't call Miller anymore or answer his phone calls.

Maybe he didn't flat out say he should "look around" but he certainly wouldnt be trying to stop him in the above scenario. I would imagine that happens more often than you think.

Could the staff like what they have in Miller and intended to keep him? Then when he decides to take other visits the staff then decides to take the next guy on their board in his place?

Kind of like Phillips. The staff wants him, but instead of waiting him out or risk being left at the alter they take the next guy on their board.

Or its also possible they have something like this:

Take in Order (for example):
1) Martin
2) Abernathy
3) Reynolds
4) Miller

You take commitments from any of 1 - 4, but only the top 2 get to sign. I've seen ample evidence to believe this is how the staff operates.

Barton Simmons with the CB to UT a couple of hours ago (SIAP).

That now gives Tennessee the edge to land Abernathy 55%.
