'15 GA CB Micah Abernathy (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Ok, if you were said recruit would you de-commit after being asked to "look around" or wait till after UT replaced you on Friday? All I am saying is he is still showing as a UT commitment. Had the UT coaches told him to "look around", IMO he would no longer be a Vol. I doubt he would wait till after Abernathy announces for UT on Friday to announce he has de-committed.

They don't ask them to "look around", the coaching staff just stops calling the commitment that they are ready to let go. They'll answer a call here or there but they don't say the "man can't wait for you to get here" type stuff they say to the other commits.

Then as other staffs continue to push the player thinks, well maybe I should take visits because the Vol coaches aren't showing me the love they used to. Then he calls the TN coaches and is like I think I'm gonna visit Ohio St and Oklahoma St and our staff is like, "oh totally understand, you need to make sure you are going to the right place, we really hope you enjoy those visits."

Then the player gets shown the love on that visit, decommits and commits the other school.

WahLAH! Spot opened for new BEASTSTUD to commit to the T!

Fortenberry said he is leaning toward not having a commitment ceremony and will just simply inform the head coach of his commitment to the school.

Even in the cut throat world that is college football recruiting, I'd at least hope our coaches have a little more backbone than that. If they intend to drop a kid, at least have enough respect for the kid to let them know. "Just stop calling/taking their calls" sounds like something a 10th grader does to their ex. Why would the coaches not respect the kid and his family enough to tell them when that type of decision is made so the kid can then look at other options?

I for one hope our coaches value a kid who chose to be a Vol a little more than just leave them hanging and telling the secretary to "just tell them I'm not here if they call".

"For awhile it seemed like CB Micah Abernathy was a UGA lean, but now it seems like Tennessee has jumped into the lead and I expect the Vols to land him by the weekend barring a major surprise. Abernathy took an official visit to Knoxville for the Florida game and loved every second of it. More importantly, Tennessee offers him the opportunity for early playing time since the Vols are paper thin in defensive secondary depth."

Agreed and I didn't include him on my list for that reason.

I am not just picking players due to them being 3*. Look at the positions the staff is still really trying hard to bring a few more guys in.

RB
OL
DE/OLB
CB

Those are the positions that we need to make room for from our current commits. You don't see us going after any S's so that is another good indicator that Griffin is in this staff's final plan for this class.

Contrary to what LV says we will end up with 26 or so commits on signing day so LB and probably one more OL spots are still open right now.

But if we want to add 2 corners, another DE and a RB then we will have attrition on our commit list by natural forces.

We're still going after Brian Cole and I believe he is projected as a Safety

He will absolutely have the opportunity for early playing time. But we definitely aren't paper thin in the secondary. We are young but we've got talent and we're building some depth back there. I'm excited to see how these young guys progress, I've got high hope for a few of them.

Side note: I've been pleasantly surprised with the play of Michael Williams opposite Sutton this year. He's made some mistakes but that's to be expected. For the most part I think he's played well and he's going to do nothing but get better.

Williams just needs to make more plays on the ball. He likes to hit. And it shows with how disruptive he is on the edge.

Yeah our depth is young & unproven but we do have some. Moseley at corner, i like gualden & payne to compete for nickel when coleman graduates, and like tkjr and ev berry at safety as randolph & mcneil progress & graduate.

Not sure where foreman or johnson fit into the mix

Agree with all of this. Williams definitely is disruptive outside. Would like to see his ball skills improve though. Kid's a player...

I'd say they are still pretty thin at cornerback. They don't really seem to know what to do with guys like Berry or Gaulden yet so until that happens I think there are still a lot of questions marks as far as depth goes and even the front end goes.

Berry could return kicks. That'd be a start.

I know Evan is getting looks at CB/S, but if he gets some chances on offense to get the ball in his hands I don't think this staff will want him back on defense. I think we need 2 CBs and a S this recruiting cycle. We have our S, now we need the two CBs. I also think Gaulden moves to S, and Payne takes the nickel position for the future. Should be interesting to see how it all works out.

I don't see Berry sticking on offense. I think he's there now because they are rather desperate at that position with Hurd being dinged up, Scott not having played yet and Lane having an awful season so far.

I agree they need 2 more CB's in this class though. No doubt about that. And with how interchangeable things are with this secondary 3 wouldn't shock me. I also wouldn't be shocked if they take another safety if an elite guy like a Brian Cole wanted to jump on board.

Glad that we will be getting this guy. I love his potential. He's the total package at CB (size, speed/athleticism, and ball skills) and has the potential to be a true lock-down corner. I want to add him and Martin (hate to say it but we take them and let Miller go) and then be done at CB.

SN: Micah is noticeably faster as a junior than he was as a sophomore in his highlights. Curious to see what he looks like as a senior when some film comes out.

This has been bothering me for a while; who is Mike Williams? A walk-on?

So we are definitely getting him?

Williams is solid. I agree that he needs to play the ball more like CAM does. There were two times he could have had picks in Florida game if he was playing ball instead of wanting to knock the Piss out of the WR

Completely agree with this. Since he's a converted track guy, I think it's great that he loves the contact, and as has been mentioned, I think he'll get better at playing the ball with reps. Since he came from track, I would definitely prefer he is wanting to hit people, and needs to work some on playing the ball than the other way around. Some guys never seem to get to the point where they want to smack someone, so I'm glad that's not an issue with MW.

Mike Williams is one of the best walk-on players in the country. If there were a Heisman for walk-ons only this man would win it.
