'15 GA CB Micah Abernathy (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Or its also possible they have something like this:

Take in Order (for example):
1) Martin
2) Abernathy
3) Reynolds
4) Miller

You take commitments from any of 1 - 4, but only the top 2 get to sign. I've seen ample evidence to believe this is how the staff operates.

Could be. Would look very strange at times though. If you're taking a class of 25, at any one time you could have 50-60 commitments with plans to drop 25-35 of them along the process up till NSD. I've never seen anything like that play out.

And you never will I'm sure. Guys make other plans once they start to see the writing on the wall. Not saying I like it, but when you only have 25ish scholarships a year and you're a D1 school, things get ugly at times.

I doubt it.

A school tells me I might want to "look around" and I would announce I was de-committed in about 15 seconds of getting that call. I'd guess he is taking visits on his own.

JMO

Or being a Tennessee commit increases his hype and exposure....it has to be a lot better than Tennessee recruited over me. The kid can commit to a new school any time.

Miller: "Hey Coach Butch, I'm thinking about going to check out Okie State instead of coming to Tennessee's biggest recruiting weekend of the year."

Butch: "Ok. Have a good time."

*click*

Butch doesn't call Miller anymore or answer his phone calls.

Maybe he didn't flat out say he should "look around" but he certainly wouldnt be trying to stop him in the above scenario. I would imagine that happens more often than you think.

You know the saying competition breeds success? Well, it directly applies to recruiting. For the most part, the best want to play against the best. That's why Bama can recruit 5* players in the same positions every year. All those Bama commits think they are better than what's already there. You recruit guys with that mindset and you are eventually going to have success. Everyone keeps wondering how CBJ is going to work out the numbers, well, here is your answer. You sign elite talent and the not so elite will usually go else ware knowing they can't compete with the competition. Everyone says they aren't scared of competition, but if your competition has a M-16 and you have a potato gun it's probably in your best interest long term to go into a fight with someone who has something equivalent to your potato gun. Martin and Abernathy are on a whole another level than the players we currently have. It's not bashing, it is what it is. Personally, I was ok with Miller and calling it a day, until Martin and Abernathy became a real possibility. You just can't let guys like Abernathy not commit.

Played in 2 games per Cincy website
Has stats for 2014 both on Cincy website and ESPN
He was injured for Ohio St and Memphis

Medical redshirt for his senior year, will graduate college in December be an early enrollee and have that one year to play

Numbers would never get that high. That is why you saw the staff not take Humphreys or Ford last year or Johnson this year. I am sure they have a list of who to take and not to take early.

I agree with Dust10's assessment. It is clear this staff will take certain players early. Then, if players higher up the board commit, they ask the previously committed players to look around. If the players higher up the board don't come, then they still have their guys. Say what you want, but it is big boy recruiting, and it has been successful so far.

Committing means nothing until NSD. Anybody that keeps up with recruiting knows that.

I'd bet there are ALOT of young men committed to schools around the country would not feel the same way. I'd bet there are ALOT of coaches who feel that early commitments mean ALOT. With about a dozen of the commitments for UT this year planning to be EE's also kind of points to it meaning something.

So everybody gets it once again except LV....

Same ole same ole.... I'm done, I'm just playing along. Do y'all really think he's this dumb? That we think we would take 60 commits and go go from there? Lol, yet he thought I/we misunderstood his? LMFAO!

Nothing in recruiting is set in stone until LOI are signed. you should know that. Regardless of what you like to think, recruiting NEVER ends. Even EE's can change their minds.

They may not be set in stone, but even college coaches have to tread lightly in certain situations. Take the 2016 QB situation. Kendall is committed and seems locked in. Would CBJ be taking a risk to continue extending offers to QBs or pushing hard for QBs for 2016? I'd say yes. May not be set in stone, but even coaches have to be careful when it comes to recruiting.

"The defense played great. They just couldn't get the job done in the end," Abernathy explained. "The defense played amazing, the calls were amazing, they were making plays, especially Cam Sutton. He's clearly one of the best defensive backs right now."

"The defense played great and I'm proud of those guys for that even though Tennessee took a loss. But, I will play on the defensive side of the ball so I was amped up to know the philosophy of Tennessee's defense is working right and they are just missing a couple of pieces."

"I know the guys at Buford because we're not that far from them. I know Evan and Elliot Berry because I have been running track with them since elementary school," Abernathy said. "I know Brian Randolph from church and I know a couple more people on the team. I've just been using them as reliable sources of information to make a good decision."

Sounds like he is already committed. CBJ doing more work in recruiting.

The way this is setting up if we do get Abernathy, Martin, and Walker is going to be amazing for us. I know most fans have very little patience, but we should have a top 3 defense for the 2016 season. The pieces for the offense are coming together as well if you really take a closer look at it. What is missing is a mobile QB. If Dobbs pans out, or JJ really develops early we are looking at something really special in 2016. A mobile QB would have made all the difference in the world this year with our young line if we had someone that could make something out of nothing when things break down. I just hope we as fans have the patience to see this through.

Commitment isn't commitment unless you're committed. You can't be in a serious relationship and still be dating.

Wait I'm on Volnation.....................
