'15 GA DT Quentez Johnson (NC State commit)

If this kid is a Vol, then I'm guessing we are whiffing on DJ and Tuttle. I really hope that's not the case, and that's no disrespect to Quentez. I just think putting DJ or Tuttle on the opposite side of Kahlil will take our DT play to a whole new level. Of course, I think Picou on the opposite side of Kahlil would be a nice combo, too, based off of his film.

IMO I am thinking it was the staffs plan to take either Johnson or Picou. Picou commits and now Johnson has set a new announcement date. I'm with you on hoping Jones or Tuttle(I prefer Jones) still is in play. IF Quentez commits to UT, IMO it's not good news on the others. Getting 3 DTs in the class is great, just not the instant impact we could use(except McKenzie of course). I don't see us taking 4.

Agreed...

Way to early to wory about numbers it's July. Good chance most of the current commits don't sign come signing day.

Agree 100%. I have said for some time that I think 3 DTs is how many we take. Would we take 4, if Kahlil, DJ, Tuttle, and Picou or Settle all wanted in? Probably. But, it just never seems to play out that way. I prefer DJ, as well, as I think he can contribute a lot quicker. If we can land Kahlil, Picou, and either DJ or Tuttle, then we should all be very happy on NSD. Recruits, like them, will draw other big recruits. We will have a huge signing day, if we can get that group, keep what we have committed, and add on to it to finish it off.

I will boom if he commits, but I'd rather see McKenzie as our next commit on the board and then we can see what kind of dominoes fall from there.

Good point. It's likely a handful of current commitments don't end up signing with UT for whatever reasons and a handful more will sign that aren't currently even on the VN radar.

So, your saying over 50% of our current commits will sign elsewhere? Yeah, ok.

I said most not 50% you said that. It's common sense some of the early commits we have at this point may not sign in February. It also my be someone we arnt thinking of. It happened last year it does every year

You understand what the definition of 'most' is, right? It generally implies more than half.

Not being a smart butt, but most implies a majority, which would be greater than 50%. That's what your OP sounded like you were implying. A few or a handful may have been more appropriate, as Ron said, in which I would completely agree. :hi:

Unheard of, LV. You have followed this game long enough...recruiting is fluid.

I mean does it have to be?

Could all the kids who committed like their decision?

Could the staff have not been diligent in making sure the kids they were taking were looking good grade/qualifying wise?

Could all the current commits look good as SRs this year?

If so, could they not end up Vols?

Add McKenzie, Richmond, Sapp, Ordway, Jones, and Phillips and we good to go!!

We need all of the DT's we can get. A lot of teams carry 10-12 DT's We'll have 6 DT's going into 2014. Regardless of the numbers we need to take at least 3 DT's, 4 would be ideal.

Strongly disagree about signing 4; there's an opportunity cost somewhere else for every DT (or any other position) you sign beyond your needs. Very few teams carry 10-12 scholarship DTs (unless you're counting noseguards in a 3-4 D), and we project to have 8-10 this fall depending on where Barnett (DE/DT), Mosley & Robertson end up. And if Hendrix is truly 273 lbs already, he could very well end up playing inside also in a year or two.

Also, there's not a senior in the bunch. So if we add Picou, McKenzie and one more DT to our '15 haul, we'll have tremendous DT depth that fall.

FWIW, LSU has 9 DTs on their current roster while Auburn and FSU have 8. South Carolina only has 6.

This is the only combo of DTs that I could see us taking if we were to take 4 DTs.

We won't voluntarily let Picou go...jmo.

Agree. If they didn't love Picou, then they wouldn't have accepted his commitment already. Plus, it helps to get a stud LB in Smith along with him, and have an advantage when recruiting the #1 TE in the country next year in Nauta.

We signed a lot of guys that play end last class. After losing 10 pounds, Barnett, who many including myself thought would move to tackle, is now officially listed as a DE on the roster at 267. The other guys are listed as DL or OL/DL. Hendrix will stick at end too, I believe, as will Henderson. I'm glad we flipped Sawyers because to be honest he's the only true HS DT we pulled last class. I'm not sure what will happen with Mosley and Robertson but OL has obviously been reported as a possibility.

So, while we've got decent depth at end now, we're still short on true HS tackles. And they'd probably like one of those to be a plug and play guy, like Jones.
