'15 GA OLB Quarte Sapp (UT Signee 2/4/15)

That's not how that works. Swafford will count against either the 2013 or 2014 class, so technically the total 85, but not the 25 limit for 2015.

So we may end up taking 24 guys, but it would be because we only had 24 scholarships available on the roster. We would still be allowed to take 25 as long as we had 25 open scholarships on the roster.

Yeah. That's how I see it also. With Paulk gone, I count 65 Scholarship Underclassmen right now.

How does that work when those classes were already full?

2013 wasn't full...21 iirc...and that was before Jabo Lee never even made it in...Carr, Riley and Harris leaving removed spots also.

I don't think them leaving or not making it in has any bearing on the initial counter rules, though I could be wrong. Also, didn't they use any available wiggle room from '13 to sign the large'14 class?

The wiggle room was from not signing full classes in 2012 and 2013...backcounting EEs in 2013 and 2014 led to that 32 player number...to get to 25 for the 2015 class, 7 non senior spots on the 85 man roster need to open up.

per Hubbs

Running backs coach Robert Gillespie will be at Milton High School to see Quarte Sapp on Friday and it seems Sapp has somewhat hit the reset button on his recruitment. After coming close to pulling the trigger late in the summer Sapp backed off of that and is now looking at several schools. Tennessee has consistently been in there and is likely the team that's recruited him the longest and the hardest, but Sapp continues to look around. Gillespie will see several other players in that I-85 corridor on Friday.

This. I want Sapp and think he's a good prospect but, imo, he's not good enough for Tennessee to be waiting around to see what he does.

That's probably why they are shifting gears and turning up the heat on guys like Arthur McGinnis. I think Sapp is undersized anyways.

UT needs to hit the reset button on his recruitment as well it seems.

It sounds like they are beginning to per the War Room with names like McGinnis now popping up. I'd like to see them get Sapp but I've said all along I don't think he's the kind of guy you wait around for or hold a spot for. You also have to watch the Michigan situation and possibly getting back in it with Darrin Kirkland Jr. I know they felt he could play OLB as well and he was apparently the #1 guy on their board for the last OLB slot.

Them leaving doesn't remove spots from the '13 numbers. IIRC they changed the rules about non-qualifiers a few years back making them count against the numbers too.

85 man roster spots is what matters...players leave?...those spots become available...see Bama "medical" situation for reference.

They both matter. If we had room for thirty on NSD with the 85 number we still could only take 25.

Because we have no back counting due to last year's max class...without the vacated spots, we don't sign 25 this year. If Carr, Ferguson,Lee and Paulk were on the squad?...15 class is even smaller.

I understand that. I thought you meant they took away from the '13 class numbers. My bad.

Sapp is looking for a reason not to be a Vol. The boat is almost full, they want him, and he still holds out. He doesn't want to be here, so we move on, IMO

I think you're agreeing with me...

This guy needs to piss or get off the pot.

If he's not careful, Jerome Baker is going to take his spot.... /sarcasm.
