'15 GA OLB Quarte Sapp (UT Signee 2/4/15)

Sorry should have been clearer.

Recruiting him with the idea of you get a shot at wr, if it works out great, if not we have a position in mind we think youd be better at.

A shot at WR? Seriously? I didn't even know he played on offense. So, NRPP, are you saying the coaches specifically told Jennings that we are recruiting him as an athlete and will give him his first shot at QB, but if he's not progressing well, then might move him to safety? If so and Jennings is fine with that, then it might explain exactly why we are recruiting Jones, especially if Peterman transfers.

The WR comment is in regards to Cole, not Sapp.

Oops, my bad. Forgot we had been discussing him here a little earlier. I also saw your thought about the QB situation just a minute ago in a different thread. Thanks. Do you know if the coaches have talked much to Jennings about moving to safety if QB isn't working out?

All I know in regards to Jennings is he will get his freshman season (spring, summer, fall) to practice at qb. At the end of the 2015 season, they will reevaluate and move forward.

I mentioned him in comparison to Cole for that reason.

Orange venom said prepare to boom for Sapp and Kirkland (in the Kirkland thread), surprised that didn't carry over to here.

Per Hubbs

Elsewhere, we continue to believe that the Vols are the team to beat with linebacker Quarte Sapp as he is scheduled to be on campus Jan. 16 for his official visit and we continue to wonder when he will make an official announcement of some kind. He's hard to get in touch with, but most don't believe that one will go all the way until signing day unless a new team enters the picture.

Sapp and Paulk are very close.

Around the time Paulk was suspended Sapp quit talking to the staff.

Until recently when the rumblings began to churn about Paulk being reinstated did Sapp return interest.

That's one of the few things fueling Paulks return.

We do need Sapp IMO. If you look at that potential future corps of linebackers Sapp, Smith, and Kirkland....that is scary good. Especially when you look at the D line prospects coming with them. We are talking about a class with the most talented front seven in the country on combined potential.

We alreadly have a lot of young talent at LB already here though. and our base D only uses 2 LBs

I love signing defensive players, but if signing Sapp is contigent on Paulk getting a second chance, fawk him. If Butch should let Paulk come back, I hope and pray it's based on far more than he could help us land Sapp. And if he should get a second chance, it should be on a tight leash. One minor mishap and his ass hits the bricks type of thing. Whole situation makes me wary.

You do realize that the initial reports of the incident now appear to be false. Don't always believe everything you hear from the media or read on message boards. Most of it is usually second hand info or someone filling in the blanks. I don't know what actually happened that night, but I'm pretty sure you don't either. If this young man is reinstated to the team I can almost guarantee it has nothing to do with the recruitment of Sapp, and more to do with him getting a raw deal in the first place.

For what its worth, I never pegged Paulk as the type of kid that would do something like that. I guess what I'm saying is that it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out to be completely untrue. Either way, I'm gonna trust our coaching staff to figure it out. And I want Sapp regardless, if we can swing it

Besides UGA and Bama(sometimes now) most other teams we play like to use atleast 3 receivers.

Unless teams go 5 wide the corners and safeties Butch is bringing in can cover 4 wideouts. I am fine with us only taking two LBs this class because of the way Berry and McDowell have progressed as LBs in their first year.

Give me a DE over Sapp ...

I didn't rely on press reports or mbs. I relied on CBJ feeling punishment was warranted. I'll freely admit to not knowing what happened that night, but given it happened at a party with teammates present, I'm assuming Butch collected some of the details from those teammates before he made his decision. If Butch feels he deserves a second chance based solely on the idea he's earned it, then I'm okay with that. If Butch feels he deserves a second chance based solely on the fact he could help us land a recruit, I'm not okay with that. But I don't know Butch's reasoning so I'll hope it's the former and pray it's not the latter.

All that said, I stick by making him walk a tight line. He's had his mulligan. If he comes back, no more screw ups. Slip up again, and your ass is gone.

That said, you do realize Butch was in a much better place to gather facts than either of us when he made his initial decision?
