I didn't rely on press reports or mbs. I relied on CBJ feeling punishment was warranted. I'll freely admit to not knowing what happened that night, but given it happened at a party with teammates present, I'm assuming Butch collected some of the details from those teammates before he made his decision. If Butch feels he deserves a second chance based solely on the idea he's earned it, then I'm okay with that. If Butch feels he deserves a second chance based solely on the fact he could help us land a recruit, I'm not okay with that. But I don't know Butch's reasoning so I'll hope it's the former and pray it's not the latter.
All that said, I stick by making him walk a tight line. He's had his mulligan. If he comes back, no more screw ups. Slip up again, and your ass is gone.
That said, you do realize Butch was in a much better place to gather facts than either of us when he made his initial decision?
He was, but there were a lot of other things going on around the country that could have influenced the decision. Additionally, I am willing to bet that it could have even been out of Butch's hands. With the negative publicity surrounding domestic violence, I have no doubt that it played a role. It is better to quickly cut ties and consider a comeback than to deal with the public reaction if you keep him.
