'15 JUCO CB Justin Martin (UT Signee 2/4/15)

He had academic concerns coming out of high school, so he decided that it was in his best interest to complete the GED, enroll in JUCO January, 2014 and, thus, be able to complete his associates degree by May/June of next year. That way, he will lose only one year of collegiate eligibility. He said that he simply dug himself too deep an academic hole early in his freshman/sophomore years and would not have been eligible as a member of the 2014 class. Otherwise, he would have been a very highly rated 4-star instate prospect.

He is crazy fast and he's 6'2. Coaches need to take him in a hurry......

Yeah, I thought he would have announced after he camped this summer. His JUCO coach made it sound like he was already committed. Maybe he is, and he just doesn't need all the glamor of making a public announcement. I don't know. Something doesn't seem to add up...that's for sure.

I agree. Something seems to have changed. I get the feeling he is no longer in play for the UT coaches.

"Yea we need this guy! At that height he could be the next Richard Sherm..."

I played in jr. High and was Awesome! This guy ain't even got dreads so he's not fast twitch!
"The kid has all the tools for greatness! So just stay in ur ma's basement and curl that keyboard u internet Badazz!"

Sorry figured I'd get that all outta the way. But seriously this guy has what I think is need to be a great SEC CB.

"He is 100 percent a take.

The deal with Martin is that he left high school early to begin his JUCO clock, so he started in January of this year. He finished the spring semester with a 3.0-plus GPA. He also had an NCAA qualifying ACT score out of high school, just a very low GPA. He took several credits over the summer and also did well and with a heavy course load in the fall and in the spring, he'll easily graduate and be ready to enroll with four years to play three with the Vols.

He has elite speed and the kind of height that SEC coaches dream of, measuring about 6-1/6-2 and a laser 40-time in the 4.4's."

And this also makes it sound like he is already committed...hmmm.

Would love to hear that is indeed the case. Wanted this kid to be a Vol for a while. Him not committing at camp just did not make sense to me with him not able to visit anywhere else till after Dec. 8th. Hopefully it works out for us.

I wouldn't go that far.

Why not? Woody just said that he would easily graduate in the spring, and be able to enroll with 4 years to play 3 with the Vols. Why would he mention us as where he would play out his final 3 years, if he hadn't already committed to the coaches? Why wouldn't he say that is how much eligibility he will have left at the college of his choice? I think it speaks volumes that Woody specifically mentioned the Vols only.

Unless something happens that jeopardizes him academic situation (which seems unlikely) Martin will be a Vol. He is a 4 to play 3 guy that is truly elite. He will immediately challenge the 2014 class guys (Moseley, Berry, Gaulden, Payne) for the starting CB spot opposite Sutton.

Educated guess, or you know something?

IIRC. Madkins has legit connections

I don't have any legit connections. I have been fortunate enough to hear and see a few things since Butch took over, though.

The Martin stuff is just common knowledge. He is unofficially committed to Tennessee and everyone that has seen him play or camp has thought that he is an elite CB. He would have been a no doubt top 100 player coming out of HS if not for grades.
