'15 JUCO CB Justin Martin (UT Signee 2/4/15)

We should just sit in the meeting room and discuss football hypothetically. That way no one gets injured. That should be enough to prepare our young team for the season.

I never been the type to say it might be time to pull back a little in practice, I never did when I coached but it might be time to pull back a little.

Heard this all my playing days. "You play like you practice"

I often wonder if those who want campfire football ever played the game.

Exactly. If you lack physicality on the practice field, it will show when physical teams (especially those with backs like Chubb and Henry) are able to run right through arm tackles.

you arent the only one who played the game. At this point in camp its not about beating the hell out of each other.

We even cancelled some practices to try and heal up. Nothing about the limited of action we've seen suggests us putting them through too much. It just happens

At this point in camp it sounds like he has toned it down into more game prep. Gaulden injury is one that could have happened from a number of situations. Broken bone in foot I don't see as stemming from hard hitting physical practice. It could have come from basic drills like jump ball drill and landing wrong, etc. if we are having head injuries or more physical impact injuries then I'd be more concerned.

Martin is the only injury from hard practice right? One isn't bad at all. The other injuries could have happened with or without pads/hitting.

It happened in special teams prep. Could have been stepped on, or just had to much stress on it when landing. Who knows

Me too.But the athletes playing today are much larger, faster and stronger.Plus with all the new rules regarding helmet to helmet hits guys are going lower and practicing going lower.

On ESPN, they said many NFL teams don't even allowing tackling in practice anymore. The first live reps they get are in preseason.

One NFL is a league of professionals paid to play and that have a much better understanding of the game and how to prepare. So you can cut some corners in the pros that you can't with kids. College kids don't know that yet unless they were lucky enough to be coached by a HS powerhouse or have football legacy.

You also mention preseason. Wel college doesn't have a preseason. NFL can afford no physical hard hitting until preseason since they can iron out kinks in those games but if your waiting to get hit in your first college game when everything is on the line then your in trouble

And apparently more injury prone. I think you have a lot more combine kings today as where you had mentally tougher kids coming out of high school going into college. Practices were harder. Kids weren't as coddled. Yeah, the science and information wasn't there. But instead of slightly pulling up on some rules. Football has shifted to the point where everything is a penalty. That's why you hear a lot of players saying just put flags on them and call it what it is.
