'15 JUCO CB Justin Martin (UT Signee 2/4/15)

No impact on outcomes? So we are going to be able to sign everyone we want?

We are going to have to turn down some very good players this year because of this dumb rule.

No, we have to turn down players because of the NCAA rule.

The SEC rule just limits the number of players that can physically sign a LOI of financial aid agreement.

The NCAA rule strictly limits the number of players that physically be enrolled in school on scholarship every year to 25. It includes EE's, JUCO's, transfers, everyone.

A little known fact about the SEC rule is that a "back-counted" EE does not count for either the backcounted class or the upcoming class in terms of the 25-man signee limit. That means that there is almost always a higher number of students that are allowed to sign than enroll. The SEC rule has never and most likely never have a legitimate impact on our recruiting efforts. It was 100% designed to prevent schools like Ole Miss from signing 5+ players every year that had no shot of actually being able to enroll.

Good info, thanks. Just seems like having one great cb isn't very useful if you can avoid him so easily, although I guess you can send safety help to the other side. When there are 3 or 4 WR though, you're basically giving a free pass to the top WR lined up on the #3 cb, or so it seems.

Which is why it's such a huge asset to have multiple good corners and why I really hope we can get Martin bc I think he's going to be really good. Also excited to see how Moseley progresses, he got a lot of praise from the coaching staff. I think he just needed some time to develop his game and get stronger. He's got so much potential with his speed and length.

He will never be CP. He does some things better than CP, like blocking, but he's nowhere near him athletically. He's like 40 lbs smaller, nowhere near even the same type of player. If they didn't both have dreads, no one would compare them at all IMO.

One does not simply become CP. he has so much talent that wasn't coached or developed. It's just there.

A part of me thinks he could go out and play any sport he wanted

Mike Farrell says LSU and UGA are ahead of Tennessee right now in this recruitment. Says if Martin signed today, it would be LSU.

CP is one of the top 10 most gifted athletes of all time. In football.

You may actually be right in terms of pure athletic ability as he has the most ridiculous moves of any football player I've ever seen; however, he is severely deficient in the mental aspect of the game and as such will never be more than gravy rather than a building block for sustained success a la Reggie Wayne.

Smart teams draft proper football players like Jordan Matthews while dumb teams draft mentally weak athletes like Pacman, VY, Justin Hunter, and Kenny Britt

Who was it who said he was a UT lock, just a matter of when he could enroll? Fort and Hubbs?

I agree with your post

Fortenberry countered saying "Tennessee would be tough to beat" which if you have ever followed volquest that is a close to VOL LOCK as you can get.

Trust me on this one...

When it comes to UT recruiting info...

Paul Fortenberry and Brent Hubbs>>>>>>>>>>>>Mike Farrell

I guess something could have changed since their (Hubbs/Fort) statement but Farrell has been wrong a few times in the past anyways. I don't really put much stock into his predictions usually.

Oh I agree. I'll take their word over Farrell's when it comes to Tennessee. I was just posting what he said

Does Farrell ever have actual information or does he just randomly throw stuff out that sounds good?

He's solid but he is as wrong usually as he is right. He isn't arrogant or boastful like the other Rivals team so he gets a pass.

I just think he's probably getting some bad info here. I hihgly doubt he knows Martin was placed in JUCO by UT. I also highly doubt he read Martin's tweets after the SC game in which Martin called the Vols his team.
